Three Superior Court judges will allow the state Senate to carry on with Cabinet confirmation hearings. The panel has rejected Governor Roy Cooper's request for a preliminary injunction in challenging the Senate's right to confirm his Cabinet appointees. The judges state a case may be brought later, if the Senate rejects one of those nominees, otherwise there is no irreparable harm to claim. GOP lawmakers passed a law in special session late last year, requiring the new vetting process. A trial on the law's constitutionality is scheduled for March.
