NC Elected Officials Could Get NCHP Protection

A bill introduced in the state Senate attempts to avoid situation like the one in Washington D-C recently when ex-North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory was cornered by protesters shouting "Shame!" Charlotte Sen. Dan Bishop proposes providing former governors with occasional protection from a member of the State Highway Patrol. The cost of travel and lodging would be covered by the sitting governor’s office. Criminal penalties would exist for the harassment of executive, legislative and court officials for one year after they leave office.
