Teenage Prosecution Bill Proposed

North Carolina could start prosecuting 16-and-17-year-olds as juveniles.

A bill introduced, in part, by a mountain lawmaker yesterday would stop teenagers from automatically being prosecuted as adults.  Representative Chuck McGrady of Henderson says under the law, the severity of the charge would be considered, allowing teens to be prosecuted as juveniles.

Currently, New York is the only other state that automatically prosecutes older teens as adults.
