NWS: Up To 8'' Of Snow In WNC

Snow comes to the Asheville area, and the National Weather Service forecast is getting worse, or better depending on your perspective. The weather service now says parts of the area could see up to 8 inches of snow this weekend. The snow is expected to start falling tomorrow afternoon and the system is expected to be gone Sunday night around 8.


"The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued a Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow, which is in effect from 7 PM EST Saturday to 11 AM EDT Sunday. The Winter Storm Watch is no longer in effect.

* LOCATIONS...The mountains of North Carolina.

* HAZARDS...Heavy snow.

* TIMING...Snow will begin at the higher elevations of the North   Carolina mountains Saturday afternoon, dropping to the lower elevations Saturday night, with the heaviest period in the pre- dawn hours Sunday. The snow will taper off by Noon Sunday.

* ACCUMULATIONS...Snow accumulations of 4 to 6 inches, with some 6 to 8 inch totals at elevations above 5000 feet."
