Ex-Tryon Officials Charged In Conspiracy

Two former officials with the town of Tryon are facing federal charges. Former Tryon town manager and fire chief Joe Davis and former town commissioner Leroy Miller face conspiracy charges. Federal prosecutors say Davis would make payments to Miller, in exchange for Miller's influence when it came to budgets and his employment status. According to court documents, when Davis did not have the money, he used town credit cards to pay Miller's personal bills. Miller is also charged with Federal Program Fraud (since the town receives federal funding), Extortion, and Witness Tampering. Davis was fired in January. Miller resigned from his seat last month when his name came up in the investigation.
