NC Senate Compromises On Class Size Bill

The state Senate appears to have a deal in place that will lead to the passage of a bill many educators have pushed for. House Bill 13 would reduce the burden placed on elementary schools to meet K-3 class size reduction rules passed in the General Assembly last year. The deal will phase-in reduced class sizes while state lawmakers study how to cover the cost of art, music, drama and PE teachers. School officials have said class size reductions to be enforced next year could have led to those teachers being dismissed to bring in more K-3 teachers and pay for new classroom space.
