Training Completed For New Officer Use-Of-Force Policy

Asheville police officers are finished with training that should help them de-escalate situations without the use of force.

The new policy holds city officers to a higher standard than in the state statute.  The Integrating Communications, Assessment and Tactics training helps officers with critical thinking and crisis intervention.  The training began in February and ended last month.

According to the Citizen-Times, the police chief says it's a totally different policy than the department's previous policy.
