A winter weather advisory is closing schools in several areas across the mountains of Western North Carolina. As of 5:20am Friday morning schools in; All Asheville City Schools, Buncombe, Mitchell, Macon, Yancey, Avery, Madison, Haywood,Henderson and Swain counties are closed because of snow.
Jackson county schools will run on a delayed schedule, the Blue Ridge district will be on a 2.5 hour delay and the Smoky Mountain district will operate on a 2 hour delay.
UPDATE 6:35am: Jackson County schools are now closed for the day.
