State To Likely Cite Mountain Energy For Fuel Spill

North Carolina could slap Mountain Energy with a fine for the kerosene spill into the French Broad River this past weekend.

The state Department of Environmental Quality said yesterday it will likely cite the company.

Some 325 gallons of fuel spilled from an above-ground tank, but not that much made it into the water.

An advisory is in place, urging people and their pets to stay out of the river temporarily.
