The City of Asheville is calling on lawmakers to ban the manufacturing and possession of assault weapons in the U.S.
The City Council approved the resolution this week directed toward U.S. Congress and state legislators.
Some people showed up at the council meeting this week to show support, while others offered different options.
Mayor Esther Manheimer says the conversation needs to be about regulating guns, not just increasing security.
