AMAZON TO STOP ALEXA FROM GASLIGHTING ITS USERS

It’s not like we don’t report on enough creepy stories involving AI. But we can’t help ourselves.  The latest in AI software behaving badly comes from Alexa herself.  We already know AI assistants like Alexa and Siri have to be listening to us all the time, well apparently Alexa finds our regular behavior creepily funny.  Users are reporting that their Amazon Echo devices have been laughing like witches. What’s more troubling is that these devices have been laughing, unprompted, which means the device is responding to some other remark, or just laughing at us for the Hell of it.  I already know, we are doomed.

It’s true.  The Russia saga is burning us out in the US.  The latest adjunct story involves Democratic Senators, Amy Klobuchar and Jeanne Shaheen, asking voting machine vendors if they gave Russian entities access to their source code in a bid to perform security testing against their code.  Hiring white hat hackers is nothing new in software development.  Many companies and government agencies hire hackers to write software attempting to penetrate their products’ defenses.  According to the Election Assistance Commission, the three largest voting machine vendors’ products may contain software that has been probed by Russians.  Congressional midterm elections are quickly coming upon us, we’ll keep you informed.

FACEBOOK FILES PATENT FOR STATUS UPDATING ROBOT

If you think Alexa is gaslighting you, imagine what a Facebot will do.  The Big Blue App company, Facebook, has filed a patent for a very polite robot, that will follow you around your house and take candid photos of you for posting to your FB timeline.  You could carry a Facebook robot with you to share Live stories and broadcast video of sporting events and dance recitals.  All the while drawing more eyeballs to the ads.
