Polls Open Today For Primary Election (Asheville,  NC)

Polls are open statewide today from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 tonight for the primary election.  State and U.S. House and Senate seats will be on the ballots, in addition to any local measures.  Some of the more hotly contested races in Buncombe County include the Democratic primaries for district attorney and sheriff.  The second and third district for the board of commissioners will also feature multiple candidates on the Democratic ticket.    

Ingles Manager Accused Of Stealing Lottery Tickets (Buncombe County, NC)

Alcohol Law Enforcement is investigating an Ingles manager for allegedly stealing more than half-a-million-dollars in lottery tickets from her store.  Investigators believe Sandra Leigh Radford and three family members have spent the last two years cashing in winning tickets she stole from the Ingles on Haywood Road.  It is unknown at this time as to how much they collected in winnings.  

Henderson County Wants Parkway Project Stopped (Henderson County, NC)

The DOT will be asked to hold off on a project to construct a four-lane parkway in the heart of Henderson County.  County commissioners were handed a petition with more than two-thousand signatures before their Monday meeting of people against the Balfour Parkway project.  The roadway would run between Highway 191 to U.S. Highway 64.  The board voted to ask the DOT to trash the idea and come up with better ways to solve traffic problems in the area. 

Bond Set For Priest Facing Sex Charges (Haywood County, NC)

 A former Haywood County priest is facing charges of rape in allegations stemming from the 1980's.  Howard White appeared in court last Friday, where a judge set his bond at one-point-six-million-dollars.  He had recently been sentenced to serve time for another case involving sex abuse in Massachusetts.  White was at Grace Church in Waynesville for more than two decades.    

Fire On Appalachian Trail Now Contained (Hot Springs, NC)

A fire that burned through a section of the Appalachian Trail in Madison County is now contained.  Recent rains helped alleviate the 50-acre burn for firefighters.  A seven-mile stretch of the Appalachian Trail between Hot Springs and Garenflo is open once again.  Park rangers are still warning visitors to use caution as dry conditions may return.  

Allegiant Flight Makes Emergency Landing In Asheville (Asheville, NC)

Airline officials say an Allegiant flight made an emergency landing in Asheville because of an electrical odor.  The plane was on its way from Indianapolis to Myrtle Beach.  Allegiant sent over another airplane to get its passengers safely back out to Myrtle Beach.
