Body Found In Fontana Lake (Graham County, NC)

A body found almost 140 feet below the surface of Fontana Lake could be that of a missing boater.  The state Wildlife Resources Commission says Stan Woodard dropped out of a boat on Saturday and wasn't seen again.  Woodard and a friend were reportedly trying to tie off to a pontoon boat on the lake.  Rescue crews were able to recover the body Sunday and take it to the Graham County Medical Examiner for an autopsy.  

One Injured In Lee Walker Heights Shooting (Asheville, NC)

Asheville Police are investigating another shooting at the Lee Walker Heights housing complex.  Warrants are out for a suspect accused in a Sunday night shooting that left one man in critical condition at Mission Hospital.  A 21-year-old man was shot and killed at Lee Walker Heights just over three weeks ago.  One family member of last weekend's shooting told the Citizen-Times that the man was shot twice in the head.    

Paving Begins Today On Blue Ridge Parkway (Asheville, NC)

Repaving begins today on the Blue Ridge Parkway near Mount Mitchell State Park.  It's the beginning of a pavement project that will take place one section at a time through September over 65 miles.  The end of the repaving will be in Cherokee.  About 235 miles of the Blue Ridge Parkway have reached or exceeded the normal life cycle of a roadway, which is around 20 years.   

Tourists And Rockies Sign Two-Year Extension (Asheville, NC)

Asheville's class A minor league baseball club and the Colorado Rockies are continuing their affiliation for at least two more years.  The Tourists and Rockies extended their player development agreement into 2020, which now marks a 27-year relationship between the clubs.  Close to half of Colorado's roster has played in Asheville at some point.  The Tourists next home game at McCormick Field is today against Kannapolis.  

Victim Wants Charges Against Councilman Dropped (Black Mountain, NC)

A woman wants assault charges against a Black Mountain alderman dropped. Jeremie Konegni was arrested and booked into the Buncombe County Detention Center on Sunday.  Court documents reveal that the victim wants to drop the warrant.  Konegni reportedly has no criminal history of domestic violence.  A judge order the councilman to cease contact with the victim.  

Power Projects Will Upgrade Lines In Watauga, Ashe (Lenoir, NC)

Blue Ridge Energy is planning a 40-million-dollar project to upgrade transmission lines to help Watauga and Ashe Counties withstand nature's elements.  The company will be installing higher voltage lines over a 17-mile stretch in the U.S. Highway 221 and 421 areas.  A new substation will also be built in eastern Watauga.
