Big Early Vote Turnout In Henderson (Henderson County, NC)

The Henderson County Board of Elections office says more people turned up to vote early there than anywhere else in the state on Wednesday.  The county operates a single early voting polling place, where over 18-hundred registered voters cast ballots.  Two other sites planned for early voting in Henderson County never opened after the state passed a law requiring sites to be open twelve hours a day.  Early voting lasts until November 3rd.    

Firefighter Injured In Mills River (Mills River, NC)

A Mills River firefighter is recovering from injuries he sustained fighting a blaze Thursday morning.  Fire chief Rick Livingston said the ceiling fell on the man while he was working to put out flames inside a home near Blossomwood Path and Bolyston Highway.  The family believes the fire started in the attic due to some electrical problems.  The home appears to have been destroyed.    

People Magazine Praising Breakfast At Asheville Restaurant (Asheville, NC)

People magazine is recognizing an Asheville restaurant for having the most popular breakfast in North Carolina.  Experts at Yelp coordinated with the magazine to help list the most popular breakfasts for each state and Washington D.C.  Abeja's House Cafe on Hendersonville Road was chosen for its Latin flavors and use of local and organic ingredients.  Cafe owner Ralph Roman told WLOS-TV that they put love in every dish.   

Business Won't Re-Open After Fire (Sylva, NC)

A Sylva man doesn't plan on reopening a business that was heavily damaged by fire this week.  The blaze broke out at Smoky Mountain Plumbing and Heating on Keener Street in Sylva.  The owner lived there and is now staying with a friend.  No one was injured in the fire.   

Eighth Suicide Of 2018 On Blue Ridge Parkway (Asheville, NC)

Rangers are reporting the eighth suicide of the year on the Blue Ridge Parkway.  A Spartanburg man was found Wednesday morning down an embankment at Tanbark Ridge Parking Overlook with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.  The number of suicides across the 469-mile parkway has been on the rise the last few years.  Rangers are trained in suicide intervention tactics.   

Kombucha Maker Plans Investment In Madison County (Madison County, NC)

A beverage maker known for its Kombucha plans to invest seven-million-dollars in its Madison County facility.  Buchi's CEO says a growing demand spurred the company into developing more diversified products.  It now expects to use that money to add 28 jobs and to possibly build an additional space in Marshall.  Kombucha is a cold, fermented tea.
