Creighton Reaches Plea Deal With Federal Prosecutors (Asheville, NC)

Federal prosecutors are reaching a plea agreement with former Buncombe County manager Jon Creighton, according to court records filed late yesterday.  Sixty-six-year-old Creighton and two former county managers are accused of taking part in a kickback scheme with a longtime county contractor.  The trio was indicted in August on suspicion of fraud and receipt of kickbacks or bribes.   Details of the deal were not released.

Nor'easter Storm Brings Rain To Buncombe Co. (Buncombe Co., NC)

A nor'easter storm has moved into the east coast.  The remnants of Tropical Storm Willa are drenching North Carolina.  Forecasters are calling for a 90-percent chance of rain in Asheville today.  The last of the storm is expected to move northeast this weekend.  Areas of New York, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine may see snow and rain as a result.

Trump Headed To Charlotte For Rally  (Washington, DC)

President Trump is expecting to draw a huge crowd during a campaign event in Charlotte today.  Trump is holding a rally at Bojangles Coliseum at 7 p.m.  He's throwing his support behind Republican congressional candidate Mark Harris.  Heightened security is expected after multiple political leaders were threatened with suspected pipe bombs this week.  

Bird Scooters Dropped Off, Quickly Removed (Asheville, NC)

Dozens of Bird scooters dropped off in Asheville are already gone.  Mayor Esther Manheimer says the company did not have permission to drop off the scooters, and so the city removed them.  She says about 25 of them were left at Pack Square Park yesterday morning.  The mayor says although the Bird scooters are gone, that doesn't mean the city won't consider bringing them back to Asheville. 

Asheville Regional Airport Unveils Automated Car-Counting System (Asheville, NC)

Asheville Regional Airport is unveiling a new feature that could make parking there way more convenient.  The airport now has an automated car-counting system.  Digital signs near each parking area display the number of spaces available.  The upgrades were made after passengers complained about long-term parking. 

Trump Headed To Charlotte For Rally  (Washington, DC)

President Trump is expected to draw a huge crowd during a campaign event in Charlotte this evening.  Trump is holding a rally at Bojangles Coliseum at 7 p.m.  He'll arrive on Air Force One around 6 p.m., which could have a big impact on rush hour traffic.  Heightened security is expected after multiple political leaders were threatened with possible pipe bombs this week.
