Student Shot To Death At NC High School (Matthews, NC)

A North Carolina teen is dead as the result of what one schools superintendent says was bullying.  The sixteen-year-old was shot to death in the main hallway of Butler High School just outside of Charlotte Monday morning.  Charlotte-Mecklenburg superintendent Clayton Wilcox said it was an isolated incident that escalated out of control.  A student was arrested on a charge of first-degree murder.  The school is closed today. 

Governor Seeks To Lower Greenhouse Gas (Cary, NC)

Governor Roy Cooper is looking to cut greenhouse-gas emissions across the state.  State agencies under his control have been ordered to reduce greenhouse gases by 40 percent over the next seven years.  He said that the agencies will begin buying or leasing more electric vehicles.  The executive order signed yesterday in Cary is an effort by Cooper to combat climate change.  

Suspect Sought In Etowah Shooting (Henderson County, NC)

Henderson County deputies are looking for a suspect they say was involved in an Etowah shooting.  Two others have been arrested.  Investigators say gunfire was exchanged when the men entered the home last Friday in an attempted robbery.  One suspect and the resident were injured.  

Christmas Comes To Biltmore This Weekend (Asheville, NC)

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas at Biltmore.  Decorations and trees will fill the rooms of the Biltmore House and the estate this weekend through the rest of the year.  Visitors can expect to see over 100 Christmas trees and visit with Santa on select dates in Antler Hill Village.  Candlelight Christmas Evenings will take visitors back to a holiday experience reminiscent of that from the time of the Vanderbilts.    

Suspects Charged After Allegedly Leaving Dead Cat At Ingles (Asheville, NC)

Two people are being accused of leaving a dead cat in the parking lot of an Asheville Ingles.  The Asheville Police Department arrested and charged the two with improper burial of an animal, which is a misdemeanor offense.  Photos of what appear to be a mutilated cat surfaced on Instagram and were reported to the police.  Investigators are looking for a third suspect.      

Hundreds Of Acres Donated To Be Used To Hunting, Hiking (Polk County, NC)

A large chunk of land in Polk County is turning into a recreation area.  The Hendersonville Times News says a conservation group donated 600 acres to the state and 300 acres to Polk County at Little White Oak Mountain last Friday.  The Green River Game Lands will transform into a place for visitors to hunt and hike.  Polk County plans to build up to ten miles of hiking and biking trails. 

School Officials To Address Response To Shooting (Matthews, NC)

The call for more safety at Charlotte-Mecklenburg schools is on the minds of top officials in the wake of Monday's deadly shooting at Butler High.  Superintendent Clayton Wilcox said the district plans to address the response to shootings this week.  A nine-million-dollar school safety plan was approved earlier this year to enhance security with increased surveillance.  County commissioner Jim Puckett says he wants to revisit the idea of metal detectors in the schools.   

Mother Faces Charges In Drowning Death Of Infant Son (Charlotte, NC)

A Charlotte woman is facing an involuntary manslaughter charge for the death of her one-year-old son.  The child drowned in floodwaters left from Hurricane Florence in Union County last month.  The sheriff's office says the mother was driving the child to be with family when she tried to make it around a barricaded part of North Carolina Highway 218.  The car was reportedly swept into an open field.  She'll be in court next month.
