Two Teens Found Dead In Henderson County Lake

(Henderson County, NC) -- The state highway patrol is investigating the deaths of two teens found in a Henderson County lake. Two witnesses told WLOS-TV they heard a crash near Lake Summit on Tuesday afternoon. Dive teams discovered a car in the lake yesterday, where an 18- and 19-year-old were found inside. Investigators said there were tire marks on a gravel road leading toward the lake.

Democrats Push Medicaid Expansion In NC

(Raleigh, NC) -- North Carolina Democrats are pushing for an expansion of Medicaid. Bills in the state House and Senate were introduced yesterday that could expand coverage to 600-thousand additional people. An aide to Governor Roy Cooper told The News and Observer that the session won't end until we get Medicaid expansion. Republican House Speaker Tim Moore has acknowledged before that the house has been in talks about a version of Medicaid expansion.

Police Beating Victim Arrested On Drug Charges

(Asheville, NC) -- An Asheville man who was the victim of a police beating in 2017 is facing drug charges. The APD says officers were responding to a civil disturbance when they found marijuana and cocaine in the apartment of Johnnie Rush on Monday. Video footage published by the Asheville Citizen-Times nearly a year ago showed Rush being assaulted during a traffic stop in August 2017. Rush will appear in court in a few weeks.

One Dead In Crash With Marion Police Car

(Marion, NC) -- One person is dead in a wreck with a Marion police car. The police department says two of its officers were heading to training in Avery County when the crash happened early Wednesday. The police car and a second car collided on U.S. 221 North. The driver of the second car died, while the two officers were treated and released from Mission Hospital McDowell.

Plea Deal In Deadly Blue Ridge Parkway Wreck

(Asheville, NC) -- A South Carolina man charged in a deadly crash on the Blue Ridge Parkway is agreeing to a plea deal. Investigators said Childers lost control of his car trying to pass someone near Arden last September. A teenage passenger died when the car rolled 200-feet down an embankment. Childers was charged with involuntary manslaughter.

Dangerous Wind Chills In WNC This Morning

(Undated) -- Forecasters are predicting dangerous wind chills in Western North Carolina this morning. Eight counties along the mountains are under a wind chill advisory until ten a.m. Temperatures could feel as low as 15-below zero in elevations above 35-hundred feet. Highs for the afternoon will only reach the mid 20s to mid 30s in the region.

Woman Stabbed At Amazon Center

(Charlotte, NC) -- The CMPD is investigating a stabbing at west Charlotte's Amazon warehouse. A female employee was taken to the hospital after the alleged stabbing happened around 7:30 Wednesday night at the Old Dowd Road distribution center. A suspect was being questioned by investigators. An Amazon official said the company's thoughts are with the employee.

Second Suspect Charged In Murder

(Charlotte, NC) -- A second suspect is now facing murder charges in the shooting death of a woman last Friday in north Charlotte. One woman died and another was injured when they were shot inside a car on Wynbrook Way. The CMPD said yesterday that Omantie Rowe was found in Pennsylvania and arrested for murder among other charges. The first suspect was arrested on Saturday night.

CMPD Starts Retail Theft Task Force

(Charlotte, NC) -- A new task force is beginning to cut down on retail thefts in Charlotte. The CMPD says detectives from across the city are collaborating with business owners to catch organized criminals. WBTV says around six-thousand shoplifting cases were investigated by the department last year.

One Dead In I-77 Wreck

(Huntersville, NC) -- State troopers say one person died in a single-car crash on I-77 yesterday. The car was traveling north near the Gilead Road exit in Huntersville before it ran off into the median and slammed into a pole. It came to rest a few feet from the southbound lanes. The state highway patrol is investigating what caused the accident.

Fayetteville Rapper To Headline Halftime Show At All-Star Game

(Charlotte, NC) -- A North Carolina rapper is taking the stage at the NBA All-Star Game halftime show. The NBA says J. Cole will headline a group of performers at Charlotte's Spectrum Center. The Fayetteville native has been nominated for seven Grammy Awards. All-Star weekend is coming up February 15th through 17th.

Cold Temperatures Again This Morning

(Charlotte, NC) -- It's another bitterly cold morning in the Queen City. Temperatures are in the low 20s for the second morning in a row. It is expected to dip down into the 20s again tomorrow morning. A welcomed warm-up is on the way this weekend.

Serious Wind Chill In Raleigh Today

(Raleigh, NC) -- Bundle up because it's dangerously cold in Raleigh this morning. The arctic blast is expected to hit the Triangle Region and with wind chill it will feel as cold as ten degrees this morning. The worst is over by noon and it should be nearly 40-degrees later this afternoon.

The Raleigh Cop Shot In The Neck Is In Stable Condition

(Raleigh, NC) -- The Raleigh police officer who was shot in the neck is in stable condition. Officer Charles Ainsworth was shot multiple times on January Ninth while investigating a car that was reported stolen at gunpoint. Yesterday his family announced that he was in stable condition. Police found 24-year-old Cedric Kearney locked in a shed shortly after the shooting. He's behind bars on more than two-point-six million dollars bond charged with attempted murder.

Silver Alert Issued For An 89 Year Old Man

(Raleigh, NC) -- Raleigh police are looking for a missing 89-year-old man. Police say Thomas Churchill suffers from dementia and was last seen leaving the Kangaroo gas station on Creedmoor Road last night. He may be driving a beige 2002 Camry with North Carolina plates ending in 3-6-6. He's described as a short, slender man with blue eyes and gray hair. Anyone who spots Churchill is asked to call 9-1-1.

Police Find An Unconscious Man In A Ravine

(Raleigh, NC) -- Raleigh police say while they were searching for a missing individual, they found a man unconscious in a ravine. Deputies in Wake County say they found the man last night in the woods off of Duraleigh Road. The man was taken to the hospital and his condition isn't known. Deputies didn't identify the man or even say if he was the man they had been looking for.

Today Is The Last Day Of UNC Chancellor Carol Folt

(Chapel Hill, NC) -- Today is UNC Chapel Hill Chancellor Carol Folt's last day. She wanted to resign at the end of the year, but that was moved up to January 31st. Yesterday university officials met behind closed doors to talk about who would be appointed, but it still isn't known who will replace Folt tomorrow. An interim chancellor will be picked, and whoever that is could lead the school for 18 months while the school searches for a permanent successor.

Raleigh DMV HQ Could Go To Rocky Mount

(Raleigh, NC) -- The North Carolina DMV headquarters may be moving from Raleigh to Rocky Mount. Last year's state budget requires the headquarters to be moved by 2020, and ten locations are fighting to host the new headquarters. A vote is scheduled Tuesday to move the headquarters from downtown Raleigh, if it passes the General Assembly would still have to appropriate funding.

Two People Wanted In Bar Shooting In Asheboro

(Asheboro, NC) -- Two men are wanted in connection with a shooting outside of a bar in Asheboro. Several fights broke out early Sunday morning in the parking lot of Freewayz sports bar on Zoo Parkway. Forty-three-year-old Robin Moore was shot in the chest, and several other victims were assaulted. Police are looking for 16-year-old Camarius Phillips on suspicion of attempted murder and other charges. They're also trying to find 29-year-old Dashun Ferris, who's accused of firing shots into the air.

Juvenile Arrested After Threat Made Toward West Stokes High

(Stokes Co., NC) -- The person accused of making a threat toward West Stokes High School in Stokes County is in custody. Police say the kid made the threat on social media and was taken to juvenile services Monday night. Police say the student does attend the high school.

Teen Accused Of Bringing Firearm To Eastern Alamance High School

(Alamance Co., NC) -- A 17-year-old boy is accused of bringing a gun onto the campus of Eastern Alamance High School. Jaden Hester is facing several charges, including possession of a firearm on school grounds and possession of a firearm by a minor. His vehicle was stopped on January 18th for speeding and driving recklessly. Investigators learned he had just left a basketball game at the high school. He was arrested and charged.

Group Denied Extension To Leave Up Confederate Statue

(Winston-Salem, NC) -- The group responsible for the confederate statue in downtown Winston-Salem has until the end of the day to remove it. The North Carolina Division of the United Daughters of the Confederacy requested a 60-day extension to remove the statue, but their request was denied. If the group does not remove the historic statue by today, they could face legal action.

Pedestrian, Driver Facing Charges In Winston-Salem Hit And Run

(Winston-Salem, NC) -- A pedestrian and a driver are facing charges after an accident in Winston-Salem. It happened Tuesday night at the intersection of West 5th and Cherry streets. Police say Chad Davis was crossing between two cars when he was hit by Christopher Walker. He's expected to be okay. Davis is charged with failure to yield right of way, and Walker is charged with speeding and improper lane use.
