Suspect Shot By Hendersonville Police Officer

(Hendersonville, NC) -- The SBI is investigating an officer-involved shooting in Hendersonville. An officer responded to a call of a man waving a gun outside Hannah Flanagan's Bar on North Main Street early Monday morning. The suspect allegedly ran away from the scene and drew his handgun during the chase, so the officer shot him. He was treated at the hospital with an injury to the shoulder.

Several Hundred Without Water Over Weekend In Swannanoa

(Buncombe County, NC) -- The city of Asheville says a little more than 300 customers were without water over the weekend in the Bee Tree Road area of Swannanoa. A pipe busted on Friday when the Bee Tree Creek flooded. The Swannanoa Fire Department was handing out free bottled water to affected residents yesterday.

Asheville Soccer Complex Damaged In Flooding Again

(Asheville, NC) -- Asheville Park officials are dealing with flooding damage at a soccer complex again. The Citizen-Times says the John B. Lewis Soccer Complex had been closed since flooding last year heavily damaged it. The one-million-dollar clean-up job started in March, but now it has been delayed again due to last Friday's flooding. They're now assessing how much restoration efforts will cost for the second time in a year.

Sheriff: Man Considered Armed In Mitchell County Was No Threat

(Mitchell County, NC) -- Investigators say there was no threat from a suspected armed man on a Western North Carolina trail yesterday. A social media post from Mitchell County indicated that reports had been coming in about a man armed with a machete or knife and making threats on the Devils Head trailhead. Authorities say the suspected weapon was actually a guitar after they contacted him.

Motorcyclist Dies In McDowell County Wreck

(Marion, NC) -- A motorcyclist is dead in a crash in McDowell County. WLOS-TV is reporting the driver ran into an embankment and was ejected on North Carolina Highway 226A on Sunday night. One person died and another was injured when a box truck flipped on I-40 near Great Smoky Mountains Expressway yesterday in Haywood County.

Grandfather Mountain To Build Education Center

(Linville, NC) -- A new education center is coming to Grandfather Mountain. The mountain's stewardship foundation announced last week that it will spend five-and-a-half-million-dollars to build a ten-thousand-square-foot space called the Conservation Campus. The Watauga Democrat is reporting it doubles the size of the mountain's nature museum. It may take about two years to complete after they break ground this fall.

Pilot Dies In Rowan County Plane Crash

(Rowan County, NC) -- Statesville Regional Airport officials are confirming that a pilot died in a plane crash in Rowan County yesterday. The owner of the plane reportedly let another person fly it from Statesville Regional to Twin Lakes Airport in Davie County. The plane was reported missing when it didn't arrive in Davie County a short time later. Rowan County's fire marshal said the plane crashed off Cool Spring Road.

Officer From Burger King Shooting Suspended

(Charlotte, NC) -- An officer that was at the scene of a deadly shooting outside a Burger King in Charlotte is on active suspension. The CMPD says Officer Larry Deal was placed on leave 20 days ago for something else that happened in February. Deal accompanied Officer Wende Kerl to the restaurant's parking lot in late March, where Kerl shot a man to death. Police Chief Kerr Putney says they're looking into why Deal wasn't wearing a body camera.

Standoff Over After Five Hours

(Gaston County, NC) -- A standoff is safely over in Gaston County. Police officers were trying to serve a warrant for a kidnapping suspect at a home on Spencer Mountain Road just before 6 p.m. Monday. The man refused to come out for around five hours. WSOC-TV says a K-9 Officer found him under debris inside the house.

Gastonia Police Investigate Arson

(Gastonia, NC) -- Gastonia Police believe someone set a home on fire last weekend. Officers are looking for details in the suspected arson, which damaged a home on Myrtle Street. The fire did around 20-thousand-dollars-worth of damage. No one was reported injured.

Liquid Nitrogen Spills Onto Highway Near Monroe

(Union County, NC) -- State troopers say four-thousand gallons of liquid nitrogen spilled in Union County yesterday when a tractor trailer overturned. The driver was accused of driving too fast on a turn on Highway 218 near Monroe. Three large barrels carrying the chemical spilled out onto the highway and some grass. The driver wasn't injured.

U.S. Bank To Add Branches In Charlotte

(Charlotte, NC) -- A new bank is coming to Charlotte. The Charlotte Observer says U.S. Bank plans to open ten locations around the Queen City by the end of 2020. J.P. Morgan announced earlier this year that it will also be expanding in Charlotte. U.S. Bank already employs around 800 people in the area.

Canes Tie Up Series, Game Seven On Wednesday

(Raleigh, NC) -- The Hurricanes are moving on to game seven of the playoffs. Last night, the Canes beat the Capitals in Raleigh 5-2. The winner of tomorrow night's game in Washington will determine who continues to play for the Stanley Cup. This is the Canes first playoff series in a decade.

Wake Forest Swimmer Found Dead

(Emerald Isle, NC) -- A Wake Forest swimmer is being mourned. Yesterday, the body of 18-year-old Ian Lewis was found at Emerald Isle Beach. He had been missing since Friday when he was taken by a rip current. Lewis' body was found about four miles from where he disappeared. A GoFundMe has been started to help Lewis' family, and has raised close to ten-thousand-dollars so far.

Woman Charged With Murder For Allegedly Running Over Pregnant Woman

(High Point, NC) -- A woman is behind bars for allegedly running over and killing a pregnant woman. High Point police say that on Saturday, Lavoya McClain intentionally drove over Natavia Currie after an argument, then drove away. Currie was four-months pregnant. McClain turned herself in and was charged with first-degree murder and felony hit and run.

Police: Alcohol Involved In Deadly Crash

(Raleigh, NC) -- Raleigh police think alcohol was involved in a deadly rollover crash. They say on Saturday night, Nicholas Cook was speeding down Wake Forest Road when he lost control and flipped his car. He was partially ejected and killed at the scene. No one else was hurt. Police say Cook was under the influence of alcohol at the time.

UNC Sets Up Campus Policing Commission

(Chapel Hill, NC) -- UNC officials are working to make campus policing more effective. Yesterday, UNC Interim Chancellor Kevin Guskiewicz named the members of a new commission set to look at campus policing. He's also hired a consultant to look at recent incidents like the Silent Sam statue being torn down. Guskiewicz says they're trying to improve inclusion and equality while getting rid of racism and hate.

Motorcyclist Crashes With Police SUV

(Garner, NC) -- A motorcyclist is in the hospital after a crash involving Garner police. Deputies in Wake County say they started chasing a reckless driver on Fayetteville Road yesterday afternoon when a motorcycle crashed into a Garner police SUV. The motorcyclist was identified as 27-year-old Schyler Morrison, and he was taken to the hospital for leg injuries. The Garner police officer involved in the crash is expected to be okay.

Suspect Arrested For Yadkinville Murder

(Yadkinville, NC) -- A Yadkinville man is being charged for a Monday murder. Deputies found a man shot to death near Liberty Church and Lone Hickory roads. Investigators say Shawn Murdock was arrested for murder and remains in jail without bail. He'll appear in court tomorrow.

Court Upholds Conviction Of Winston-Salem Killer

(Richmond, VA) -- A federal appeals court is denying the request of a Winston-Salem convicted killer who says he should be innocent. John Robert Hayes is in prison for the second-degree murder of two men who were killed outside of an illegal drink house on East 22nd Street in 1993. Hayes' attorney argued that some of the evidence in the case was never turned over. The judges ruled yesterday that the attorney couldn't prove the new evidence would've changed the outcome of the trial.

Worker Killed At Winston-Salem Construction Site

(Winston-Salem, NC) -- Winston-Salem Police say a man was killed at a construction site on U.S. 421 Monday morning. One slat for a soundproof wall fell on the man's truck while it was being unloaded. He was trapped underneath the slat. WFMY News reports that the victim was driving a truck for a South Carolina company.

Elderly Woman Reported Missing In Reidsville

(Rockingham County, NC) -- The Rockingham County Sheriff's Office is looking for a missing 75-year-old woman. A silver alert was issued last night for Joyce Payne. Investigators believe she was last seen on North Carolina Highway 14 in Reidsville and could be headed towards Greensboro.
