Recycling Plant Catches Fire In Rutherford County

(Rutherford County, NC) -- Fire officials are investigating a blaze that tore through a recycling plant in Western North Carolina last night. Engines were called in from surrounding counties and South Carolina to help Rutherford County firefighters battle the flames at the American Zinc plant in Mooresboro. WYFF-TV is reporting there were as many as a dozen explosions inside. Firefighters were expected to stay at the scene throughout the night.

Asheville Jewish Community Mourns After Synagogue Shooting

(Asheville, NC) -- The Asheville Jewish community is mourning for the victims of a deadly synagogue shooting in southern California. One woman died and three others were injured in a shooting near San Diego on Saturday, which was the last day of Passover. The Chabad House of Asheville said yesterday that an attack on them is an attack on all of us. Saturday's violence was exactly six months after eleven people were killed at a mass shooting inside a Pittsburgh synagogue.

Before I Die Wall Shut Down

(Asheville, NC) -- An interactive display in Asheville is now gone due to some vulgar messages. The Before I Die wall on Biltmore Avenue was covered in chalkboard paint in 2014 so that people could stop by and leave messages about what they wanted to do in life. Owners of the wall said on Facebook that some people have been leaving inappropriate comments over the past year, so it was painted green a couple of weeks ago. The Citizen-Times is reporting that some people continue to write their aspirations with their own chalk.

Two Missing Boys Could Be In Carolinas

(Presque Isle, ME) -- Authorities are searching the Carolinas for two missing kids from Maine. Investigators in Presque Isle, Maine believe 12-year-old Joel Strother and ten-year-old Carter Strother were taken by their father, which would be a custody violation. They've been missing for a few weeks. Presque Isle Police said on Friday that they could be in either North or South Carolina.

Fire Destroys Home On Lake Toxaway

(Lake Toxaway, NC) -- Transylvania County fire investigators are looking into the cause of a fire that destroyed a home on Lake Toxaway late Friday night. Firefighters told WLOS-TV it was difficult to battle the flames because the home was up a steep driveway. Everyone made it out safely from the Golden Road home. The fire started on the porch.

Former Braves' Player Signs Autographs For Youth Tourney

(Candler, NC) -- Some youth baseball players are leaving Buncombe County with an autograph of a former Atlanta Brave. WLOS-TV is reporting Ryan Klesko was in Candler on Saturday as part of the Top Gun Super NIT tournament. Winning teams in each age group received 12 bats signed by Klesko during the tournament at Bob Lewis Ballpark. Klesko was part of the 1995 Braves' World Series championship team and an All-Star in 2001 with San Diego.

CMPD Investigating Three Sunday Homicides

(Charlotte, NC) -- The CMPD is investigating the scenes of three deadly shootings that happened within eight hours of each other yesterday. The first happened on Catherine Simmons Road in west Charlotte just before 1 p.m., where a 40-year-old man died. It was just over an hour later when one woman was shot to death and a man was injured on Snow Lane in east Charlotte. Another woman died in a shooting at the Extended Stay Hotel in west Charlotte just after eight last night.

Teen Found Dead In Mountain Island Lake

(Huntersville, NC) -- Huntersville fire officials say a teen was found dead in Mountain Island Lake yesterday. The 13-year-old boy reportedly fell off a boat near Latta Plantation and never resurfaced. His body was found nearby a couple of hours after the search began.

Tiger Out Of Wells Fargo Championship

(Charlotte, NC) -- Golf fans won't be seeing Tiger Woods tee it up at the Wells Fargo Championship this year. The 2019 Masters winner didn't commit to the event by the deadline on Friday. Practice rounds begin today at the Quail Hollow Golf Club in Charlotte. Major winners Rory McIlroy, Phil Mickelson and defending champ Jason Day are playing.

Suspect Arrested After Nightclub Stabbing

(Charlotte, NC) -- One man is accused of stabbing a security manager at a Charlotte nightclub. Officers arrested Michael Bowen on Saturday night at the Suite Nightclub at the EpiCentre in uptown. The victim was treated for injuries that weren't thought to be life-threatening. WBTV is reporting that a suspect was arrested after injuring one person in a shooting outside the RedEye Diner in the EpiCentre a few hours later.

Concord Man Dies After Shed Falls

(Cabarrus County, NC) -- A Concord family is mourning the loss of a man who died in an accident outside his home Friday night. The family told WBTV that Brad Benton was inside a shed on Zion Church Road with his wife and a friend when wind caused the structure to collapse. Benton was a husband, father of two young boys and a veteran. His family burned the shed the next day.

Panthers Draft Local QB Grier

(Charlotte, NC) -- Charlotte-area native Will Grier is coming back home to play pro football. The West Virginia quarterback was drafted by the Panthers with the 100th pick in the NFL draft on Friday night. Grier grew up in Davidson and played high school ball at Davidson Day. He's the first quarterback drafted by Carolina since Cam Newton went number-one overall in 2011.

Hurricanes Are Up 2-0 Against The Islanders

(Brooklyn, NY) -- The Canes are off to a better start in the second round of the playoffs. Yesterday, they beat the New York Islanders 2-1 in game two. The Hurricanes are now up 2-0 in this series. They play game three Wednesday night at home.

Wake Forest Fire Damages A Garage And Several Cars

(Wake Forest, NC) -- The cause of a damaging Wake Forest fire is under investigation. Fire officials say the fire broke out at a garage on Purnell Road yesterday afternoon. A garage and several cars went up in flames. Firefighters were able to put out the blaze without any injuries. It isn't known how many cars were damaged or destroyed.

Teachers Prepare For Raleigh March

(Raleigh, NC) -- Teachers across North Carolina are getting ready to march on Raleigh. The North Carolina Association of Educators has been planning the May First Day of Action to draw support for public schools. So far, 26 school districts and some charter schools have canceled classes on Wednesday in anticipation of the rally. Teachers are calling for more school support staff, a higher minimum wage for school personnel, raises for teachers and expansion of Medicaid.

Durham Fire Caused By French Fries

(Durham, NC) -- A Durham family is displaced after a major fire. Firefighters say the fire broke out yesterday at a home on Duke Homestead Road. One adult and two kids lived there, they were all able to escape without injury. It appears one of the residents was cooking french fries and fell asleep. The fire was put out, but the home suffered major fire and smoke damage.

Raleigh Shooting

(Raleigh, NC) -- Police in Raleigh are investigating a shooting. They say last night, a man was shot on Cumberland Street and rushed to the hospital. It isn't known how many times he was shot or how serious his injuries are. Police didn't say if they have any suspect information, but ask anyone with information to call them.

Powerball Ticket Bought In Sanford Is Worth $1 Million

(Sanford, NC) -- A winning Powerball ticket was sold in Harnett County. Lottery officials say the ticket worth one-million-dollars was sold at a Food Lion in Sanford. The ticket sold matched the numbers 2-29-41-45 and 62, it was one of two tickets that won nationally on Saturday. Whoever bought the ticket has 180-days from Saturday to claim their prize. The jackpot for Wednesday's drawing is expected to be 181-million-dollars.

Boy Hit, Killed By Truck Outside Greensboro Home

(Greensboro, NC) -- A seven-year-old boy is dead after he was run over by a truck outside a home in Greensboro. The accident happened yesterday afternoon on Bramlet Place, near Amber Park. Police say a Nissan truck was knocked out of park and ran over the boy, killing him. An investigation is ongoing.

No One Hurt After Plane Crash In Winston-Salem

(Winston-Salem, NC) -- No one is hurt after a plane crash in Winston-Salem. It happened yesterday afternoon at Smith Reynolds Airport. Officials say a small private plane crash-landed. It departed from an airport in Georgia. The FAA is investigating.

Woman Killed In Motorcycle Wreck In Guilford Co.

(Guilford Co., NC) -- A elderly woman is dead and her husband is hurt after a motorcycle wreck in Guilford County. It happened early Saturday morning near Sumner Church and Old Randleman roads. State troopers say the motorcyclist hit a tow truck that was parked on the street. Seventy-year-old Patricia Willard was killed and her 70-year-old husband, Jerry, was critically injured. So far, no charges have been filed.

Police: Man Shoots Brother To Death In Winston-Salem

(Winston-Salem, NC) -- A Winston-Salem man is accused of shooting his brother to death. Thirty-year-old Felipe Soto Junior is currently charged with possession of a firearm by a felon. Police say he got into an argument with his younger brother, 24-year-old Fernando Soto, early Sunday morning and then shot him. The older brother drove the younger brother to the hospital where he died. Police say the vehicle that transported the victim to the hospial was stolen.

Hurricanes Take Game 2 In Eastern Conference Semifinals

(Brooklyn, NY) -- The Carolina Hurricanes are headed home for Game 3 of their Eastern Conference Semifinal series with the New York Islanders. The Hurricanes took games one and two in Brooklyn. It's the first time in franchise history the Islanders have lost the first two games of a playoff series at home. Game 3 will take place Wednesday at PNC Arena.
