One Dead In Motorcycle Wreck
(Asheville, NC) -- Asheville police are investigating a deadly accident involving a motorcycle. Two other vehicles and the bike were involved in the wreck on Riverside Drive early Sunday afternoon. It's unclear what happened. WLOS-TV is reporting that the motorcyclist died.

(Asheville, NC) -- Bernie Sanders is now the first presidential candidate to have set foot in Western North Carolina this year. The Democrat spoke on topics ranging from universal health care to minimum wage in front of a crowd of around three-thousand at Asheville's Salvage Station on Friday afternoon. Sanders won a primary victory over Hillary Clinton in Buncombe County three years ago. He said we need to have millions of people standing up, fighting for change.
APD Investigates Hotel Shooting
(Asheville, NC) -- Investigators say one person was shot at an Asheville hotel early Sunday morning. It reportedly happened during a party at the Days Inn on Tunnel Road. Asheville police haven't said if any suspects were arrested at the scene. One victim was rushed to the hospital for injuries.
Bicyclists Trek To Marion, Mount Mitchell
(McDowell County, NC) -- Close to one-thousand cyclists are expected to take part in two annual events in Western North Carolina today. The Assault on Mount Mitchell runs a 100-mile stretch from Spartanburg, South Carolina to the top of the mountain. The Assault on Marion will run the same route until cyclists hit Tom Johnson Rally Park Pavilion in Marion, or close to 75 miles. The McDowell County sheriff's office is urging motorists to be patient with riders and law enforcement throughout the day.
Fire Crews Rescue Person From French Broad
(Asheville, NC) -- A person rescued from the French Broad River yesterday is said to be in stable condition. Emergency crews from the Asheville Fire Department rushed to the river at I-26 near Bent Creek for the rescue. One of the lanes was shut down during the effort. WLOS-TV says the person was taken to the hospital for evaluation.

Investigation Into Officer's Homicide Complete
(Mooresville, NC) -- The investigation into the killing of a Mooresville police officer is finished. Investigators revealed over the weekend that they couldn't find a motive why Michael Aldana opened fire on Officer Jordan Sheldon during a traffic stop on May 4th. Aldana reportedly drove back to his Mooresville apartment that night and shot himself to death. Aldana's girlfriend told officers that he had mentioned killing himself and an officer in conversations before.
Potential Security Incident Investigated At Airport
(Charlotte, NC) -- The FBI says there was no threat to public safety after a potential security incident was investigated at Charlotte-Douglas International Airport yesterday. Passengers aboard a JetBlue flight heading to New York were forced to exit the plane as it was heading to the runway for additional security screenings. The CMPD and FBI agents also searched the plane. One passenger told WSOC-TV that a pilot said there had been a bomb threat.
Suspect In Charlotte Crimes Arrested In WV
(Charlotte, NC) -- A man facing multiple charges in Charlotte and South Carolina is now in West Virginia jail. David Monts allegedly stole a car with a child inside from a Columbia, South Carolina Chick-fil-A on Saturday before driving off out of state. He was arrested on Sunday morning after a high-speed chase in Greenbrier County, West Virginia. The child was found safe a little after the car was stolen. The CMPD says Monts was arrested a couple of months ago for allegedly shooting someone at the Epicentre in uptown.
Man Arrested For Deadly Stabbing
(Charlotte, NC) -- A man charged in a weekend stabbing death is expected to appear in court today. Richard Grier is accused of killing Andrew Allen early Saturday morning in the Dilworth-South End area. Allen was found stabbed in the parking lot of a Shell station on East Boulevard. Grier was arrested a short time later and taken to jail on the murder charge.
Statesville Reportedly Files Suit Over Flag
(Statesville, NC) -- An RV company and the city of Statesville are fighting over a large American flag. The 40-by-80-foot U.S. flag that flies outside of Camping World along I-77 is larger than what Statesville's ordinance allows. Camping World said on Facebook Saturday that the city is filing suit against the company to recover 50-dollars-a-day dating back to last October. The RV center says it refuses to take the flag down.
Kyle Larson Wins At Charlotte Motor Speedway
(Concord, NC) -- Kyle Larson is the winner of the NASCAR All-Star Race at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Larson's number-42 car was able to hold off Kevin Harvick on the final lap and took home a million dollars with the win Saturday. After the race, tempers flared as Clint Bowyer ran to the car of Ryan Newman and began throwing punches at him through the window.

Man Shot After Encounter With A Raleigh Cop
(Raleigh, NC) -- State investigators are looking into an incident where they say a Raleigh officer shot and killed an armed man. They say they responded to a medical call on Neuse Road yesterday. When first responders showed up, they say the injured man was threatening them and went up to the first cop on the scene with a gun. Police say they told him to drop it, and shot him after he didn't. The incident was captured on body cam and the suspect was taken to the hospital.
One Man Dies And Another Injured After A Shootout, Possibly With Each Other
(Durham, NC) -- Durham police say one person is dead and another is injured after a shootout. They say the shooting happened last night on Hoover Road and afterwards they found two men suffering from gunshot wounds. They were taken to the hospital, but one of them died at the hospital. Durham police say it seems that the two men were shooting at each other, but they're still investigating to see if that's the case.

(Atlanta, GA) -- A Raleigh native is paying for all student loans for this year's class at Morehouse College in Atlanta. Billionaire Robert Smith says that his family has been providing grants to erase student loan debt for the school's class of 2019. He made the announcement yesterday in front of nearly 400-graduating seniors. This type of donation means roughly 40-million-dollars to the billionaire.
Girl Pulled From Pool
(Wake Co., NC) -- Officials in Wake County are investigating after a little girl had to be pulled from a swimming pool. Deputies say on Saturday morning, they found that a six year-old girl had been rescued from the Chandler Ridge Apartments pool and rushed to the hospital. She was breathing, but wasn't conscious. A family member was at that apartment complex, but no one was charged.
Greensboro High-Schooler Drowns At Guilford Co. Lake
(Greensboro, NC) -- Students and staff at a Greensboro high school are mourning the death of a freshman who drowned at a private lake in the area. The incident happened Friday afternoon when two boys and a girl were swimming at Buffalo Lake on St. Jude Street. Authorities say all of the individuals attended Page High School. The principal there confirmed the student's death but did not identify him.
One Man Killed, Five Hurt In Winston-Salem Shooting
(Winston-Salem, NC) -- One man is dead and five others are hurt after a shooting in Winston-Salem. It happened Saturday night on Cody Drive. Police say Jalen Cockerham was killed, one victim was critically hurt and four others were expected to be okay. Witnesses tell Fox 8 the shooting happened during a block party. No arrests have been made.
Burlington PD Looking For Missing Woman
(Burlington, NC) -- Burlington police are looking for a woman who hasn't been seen or heard from in over six weeks. Sixty-four-year-old Donna Jones vanished on April 2nd. She was reported missing this past weekend. Jones is described as white, about 180 pounds with green eyes and blonde hair. Police say she may be driving an older-model Toyota Rav-4.
One Man Killed In Davie Co. Wreck
(Davie Co., NC) -- One man is dead after a single vehicle wreck in Davie County. It happened Friday night near Juney Beauchamp and Baltimore roads. State troopers say Eric Johnson was speeding around a curve when he lost control and hit a tree. An investigation is ongoing.
