Three From WNC Die In Off-Road Wreck
(LaFollette, TN) -- Three people from Western North Carolina are dead from injuries in an off-road vehicle wreck in Tennessee. Johnny Laws, Dillon Akins and Ronnie Akins were reportedly riding along a trail in Campbell County on Sunday afternoon when the UTV went off a 100-foot embankment. A fourth passenger was airlifted to a hospital with serious injuries. WLOS-TV is reporting both Johnny and Dillon graduated from North Buncombe High School in Weaverville last year.
University Student Drowns At Lake Glennville
(Franklin, NC) -- The Jackson County Sheriff's Office is confirming that a man drowned at Lake Glennville on Sunday night. Investigators say 21-year-old Marquise Dukes jumped from a fishing pier at the Pines Creek recreation area, but never made it back to shore. Dukes was a student at Western Carolina University. His body was recovered around four hours after he disappeared.
Above-Average Heats Continues In WNC
(Asheville, NC) -- The heat wave will continue today in Western North Carolina. The unofficial start to summer brought some record temperatures to Asheville over Memorial Day weekend. It reached 90 degrees on Sunday, which marks the warmest temperature for that day in 30 years. The National Weather Service is expecting highs to continue to reach around 15-degrees above average today and Wednesday.
Body Found Near Downtown Asheville
(Asheville, NC) -- Asheville Police are investigating the discovery of a body near downtown. Officers say a 40-year-old woman was spotted behind the Moog building on Broadway around ten Monday morning. They're calling the death suspicious, but there's no word on how they think she may have died. A friend told WLOS-TV that the woman was homeless.
Lenoir Woman Sentenced To Life For Murder
(Caldwell County, NC) -- A Lenoir woman will be spending the rest of her life in prison for murder. Nancy Austin was found guilty on Friday in the 2013 killing of 20-year-old Dylan Short in Caldwell County. A witness testified that Austin stood over Short and shot him as he begged for his life. The judge gave the former school bus driver a life sentence with no parole.

Bus Driver Charged In Fatal Wreck On I-77
(Charlotte, NC) -- State troopers are charging a bus driver who was involved in a deadly wreck on I-77 Sunday. He reportedly lost control of an activity bus for Victory Christian Church while trying to exit off the interstate near uptown. The bus hit a barrier and caught fire, killing an 87-year-old woman on board. The driver now faces a misdemeanor charge of death by vehicle.
Statesville Files Injunction Over American Flag
(Statesville, NC) -- The fight over a large American flag flying high above a Statesville RV business doesn't appear to be ending anytime soon. The City of Statesville officially announced yesterday that it filed an injunction earlier this month against Gander RV and Camping World for violating an ordinance concerning the size of the flag. The flag flying at the business just off I-77 is almost twice the size allowed by the city, but the owners aren't budging. One-Year-Old Dies In Golf Cart Accident
(Iredell County, NC) -- An Iredell County family is mourning the loss of a one-year-old who died in a golf cart accident Sunday. The North Carolina Highway Patrol says the driver of the cart lost control when he hit a pothole on Pintail Run Lake near Mooresville. Several people were ejected when the cart overturned. Six others were treated at the hospital for minor injuries. The road is not maintained by the state, but neighbors tell NBC Charlotte that they're looking for help from the DOT.
One Person Shot At Apartment Pool
(Charlotte, NC) -- One person is being treated for serious injuries suffered in a shooting at a Charlotte apartment complex. The CMPD says it happened at the pool at the Flats at Mallard Creek Apartments close to UNC Charlotte on Monday afternoon. The victim had already been taken to the hospital by the time officers arrived. Investigators were busy on the scene last night trying to find witnesses.

(Person Co., NC) -- The identity of a juvenile who died in Person County isn't being identified. Deputies say the juvenile drowned yesterday while swimming in Hyco Lake. This is located about ten-miles west of Roxboro. The circumstances around the drowning aren't known, and it isn't known if anyone was with the victim.
Cary Man, Two Daughters Die In A KY Car Crash
(Bonnieville, KY) -- A Cary man and his two daughters who died in a crash are being identified. Kentucky State Police say this weekend, 36-year-old Army officer Augustin Gonzalez crashed into a tow truck on a Kentucky highway. He was killed, along with his six-year-old daughter Noelle and his two-year-old daughter Gwen. Gonzalez' eight-year-old son survived the crash. Woman Dies In Robeson County Shooting
(Robeson Co., NC) -- Deputies in Robeson County are investigating a woman's death. They say they found 45-year-old April Oxendine dead in the back seat of a pickup truck on Russell Road in Shannon. Deputies say two other women were in the truck with her when shots rang out, they weren't hit. Warrants have been issued for 18-year-old Ronchelle Lewis in relation to the woman's death. Anyone with information on Lewis' whereabouts is asked to call the Robeson County Sheriff's Department.

Pack Of Roving Dogs Killing Neighborhood Cats

WNCN reports that the pack of vicious dogs are roaming the streets of the Emerald Point neighborhood and have killed at least two pet cats in the past week. Neighbors say they've called animal control, but the dogs still haven't been captured.
Investigators Search For Body Near Kernersville
(Forsyth County, NC) -- Forsyth County investigators are searching for a body near Kernersville. Fox8 is reporting it may have been dumped in the area of Teague Lane and Ogden School Road earlier this year. The search was suspended around seven last night, but forensic investigators are expected back at the scene this morning. They say they got some positive results after cadaver dogs covered the area.

Suspect Arrested In Deadly Hit-And-Run
(Greensboro, NC) -- A suspect is facing charges in connection to a deadly hit-and-run in Greensboro. Investigators say a 52-year-old man was hit by a car on Franklin Boulevard late Sunday night. The driver allegedly left the scene, but later returned. Ronnie Matthews was arrested for felony hit-and-run, death by vehicle and DWI. His nephew told Fox8 that they thought he hit an animal and only traveled 30 feet past the scene.

(Fayetteville, AR) -- The Demon Deacons are moving into the match play portion of the men's NCAA golf tournament today. It's the farthest the team has made it in the tournament since this format began a decade ago.
