Attorneys Ask Judge To Recuse Himself In Dixon Case

(Asheville, NC) -- The attorneys of a convicted killer are asking a judge to take himself out of the case in Asheville. The defense for Nathaniel Dixon claims that Judge Greg Horne was told by a bailiff that one of the jurors in the murder trial was aware of the homicide of a state witness who testified in the case. Horne took the stand to answer questions after another judge was called in yesterday. Court was in session Monday to begin the sentencing of Dixon, who was found guilty last week of killing his pregnant girlfriend in 2016.

Man Arrested For Murder In Robbinsville

(Robbinsville, NC) -- A suspect is facing murder charges for a shooting in western North Carolina. Graham County deputies say the victim was found dead in the driveway of a home near Robbinsville on Saturday night. Forrest Waldroup is facing a charge of felony murder. Investigators believe Waldroup and the victim got into a fight.

Asheville Sinkhole Filled In

(Asheville, NC) -- Crews are making progress in the repair of a large sinkhole in Asheville. The hole had grown to 36-feet across by the time it was filled with road bond. An engineer told the Citizen-Times yesterday that the road bond is a temporary fix, and residents should stay away from the parking lot at 1010 Merrimon Avenue. The ground was washed away in a culverted stream under the road down to Beaver Lake.

Suspect Arrested With Over 570-Pounds Of Pot

(Buncombe County, NC) -- A Barnardsville man is accused of possessing a lot of pot. WLOS-TV says Blade Frierson was allegedly caught with over 570-pounds of marijuana inside a motor home in Buncombe County last Friday. Police arrested him for possession and trafficking marijuana. He was released on bond yesterday.

Suspect Accused Of Stealing Safe From Restaurant

(Asheville, NC) -- An Asheville woman is accused of stealing money from a restaurant two weeks ago. WLOS-TV obtained a warrant that reveals Kiaree Holloway stole ten-thousand-dollars and a safe from Neo Burrito in Asheville. Police believe Holloway also tried breaking into two other restaurants on June 15th.

Plane Makes Emergency Landing At Airport

(Asheville, NC) -- Officials at the Asheville Airport are confirming a plane made an emergency landing yesterday. An Allegiant flight reported a possible hydraulic failure shortly after noon. The plane landed safely at Asheville Regional, where the runway was shut down for 20 minutes for technical inspections. All passengers were said to be safe.

Man Accused Of Shooting Ex's New Boyfriend In Concord

(Concord, NC) -- Concord police are looking for a man who allegedly shot his ex-girlfriend's boyfriend yesterday. Investigators say Willie Hooker was dropping off his daughter at a home on Middlecrest Drive when the two got into an argument. Hooker reportedly shot the boyfriend and drove off. The victim was last reported to be in stable condition.

CMPD Investigates 58th Homicide Of 2019

(Charlotte, NC) -- The CMPD is investigating another homicide. Investigators say Eugene Williams was shot while driving on Feldbank Drive in north Charlotte on Monday morning. No arrests have been made. NBC Charlotte is reporting it marks Charlotte's 58th homicide of the year so far, matching the number for all of 2018.

Heat Index Reaching Triple Digits

(Charlotte, NC) -- Things are heating up his week in Charlotte. High temperatures are expected to creep a little higher into the upper 90s over the next few days. The National Weather Service says a humid air mass will make it feel like its between 100 to 105 degrees in the afternoon. Temperatures will stay in the 90s for at least the next week.

Body Found Along I-77 In South Carolina

(York County, SC) -- South Carolina officials are investigating the discovery of a body. A passerby told deputies that a man's body was found on I-77 north near the York County and Chester County line. There's no word yet on if the death appears suspicious.

Kemba Thanks Hornets

(Charlotte, NC) -- Kemba Walker is thanking Charlotte as he makes his way to a new franchise. The three-time All-Star is leaving the Hornets to play for the Boston Celtics. Walker said in an article posted by The Players' Tribune yesterday that he owed Charlotte and the entire state everything. Triple-A Carolinas spokeswoman Tiffany Wright says lower gas prices, a strong economy, and the 4th falling on a Thursday will combine to have more people traveling at least 50 miles to enjoy the holiday.

Stolen Tow Truck Driver Killed In Shootout With Police

(Clayton, NC) -- The NC Highway Patrol says a man who stole a tow truck is dead after a shootout with law enforcement officers in Johnston County. The News and Observer reports it happened late Monday afternoon in Clayton after a chase on Black Creek Road. The tow truck was stolen from a used car lot in Smithfield. The Highway Patrol says the man driving the stolen truck shot at troopers, who shot back.

Durham Man Charged In Deaths Of Three Friends In Alamance County

(Alamance Co., NC) -- A Durham man is accused of shooting and killing his three childhood friends in Alamance County. Hyquan Parker was arrested on three counts of murder Monday night. Parker's accused of shooting Kaseem Peterson, Tyrone Nelson Junior, and Jason Williams Sunday night in the Pate Homes area of Burlington. The 26-year-old Parker was convicted of murder ten years ago.

Man In Stabbing/Assault Released Of Charges In Randolph Co.

(Asheboro, NC) -- The man accused of stabbing another man to death in Asheboro this past weekend will not face charges. The incident happened Sunday at a home on Dinah Road. Randolph County sheriff's officials say Linzy Coble was told to leave several times before he was stabbed to death. They say it was an act of self-defense. The person who stabbed Coble has not been identified.

Teens Face Charges In Shooting Death Of 28-Year-Old Man

(Winston-Salem, NC) -- A 13 and 15-year-old are charged with murder in the death of a 28-year-old man in Winston-Salem. The teenagers are accused of shooting and killing Tevin Bonner after an attempted robbery. It happened June 17th near Williamson Street and Timlic Avenue. Bonner was rushed to the hospital in critical condition and died several days later. The suspects are not being identified because of their ages.
