Details Released For Auditorium Overhaul

(Asheville, NC) -- Details are out on a proposed overhaul of Asheville's Thomas Wolfe Auditorium. The venue's general manager Chris Corl presented the 100-million-dollar do-over to hundreds of residents last night. That price tag is up from a previous estimate of 40-million-dollars, but Corl says he hopes the cost can be covered by corporate and philanthropic donors. Changes would be seen in just about every corner of the auditorium, including a larger backstage area, expanded lobby and an updated exterior.

McDowell County Declares Itself Second Amendment Sanctuary

(McDowell County, NC) -- McDowell County is making its stance known on gun rights. Commissioners passed a resolution this week to declare the county as a Second Amendment Sanctuary. The measure is mainly a symbolic gesture that proclaims McDowell County's support of gun owners' rights. Over 100 governments in Virgina have passed similar resolutions in the past few months, after Democratic lawmakers announced they would be introducing gun control legislation this session.

Commissioners Propose Property Tax Increase

(Asheville, NC) -- A property tax hike is being discussed by the Asheville City Council. Members Julie Mayfield and Keith Young presented the council with a proposal for a three-cent increase at this week's meeting. They say it would bring in around four-and-a-half-million dollars every year, which would go towards items like affordable housing and transportation needs. The three-cent hike equals 30-dollars for every 100-thousand-dollars a home is worth.

Restaurant Employee Stabbed By Co-Worker

(Asheville, NC) -- A man is accused of stabbing his co-worker at an Asheville restaurant yesterday morning. Asheville police say an employee was assaulted during a fight at the J&S Cafeteria at the River Ridge Shopping Center. Injuries weren't considered life-threatening. The suspect ran away from the scene, but was caught and arrested for assault with a deadly weapon.

Jail Overcrowded In Henderson County

(Henderson County, NC) -- Henderson County's sheriff is concerned about overcrowding at the jail. Lowell Griffin told the Hendersonville Times-News yesterday that nearly 200-inmates were at the Henderson County Detention Center, which is over what the national standard considers a full jail. The average inmate count has risen by close to 40-people since 2015. Commissioners are considering a study on how much a larger jail would cost.

Green Puppy Born In WNC

(Canton, NC) -- A western North Carolina family is taking care of a puppy of a different color. Shana Stamey of Canton told WLOS-TV that their white German Shepherd gave birth to a litter of puppies last week, including one that came out lime green. A local vet technician says the coloring likely stemmed from meconium collected during the pregnancy, and it should fade away soon. The family still considers the green pup to be their good luck charm.

Woman Shot Outside Kingdom Hall Of Jehovah's Witnesses

(Gastonia, NC) -- Gastonia police are investigating a shooting outside a Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. Investigators reported to NBC Charlotte that a woman was shot during a carjacking last night. She was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Two of three suspects are in custody. The hall on Davis Park Road was initially placed on lockdown.

Bishop Continues Criticism Of Impeachment

(Washington, DC) -- Charlotte-area Congressman Dan Bishop remains critical of President Trump's impeachment as the trial looms in the U.S. Senate. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi signed the two articles of impeachment yesterday, one for abuse of power and the other obstruction of Congress. Bishop tweeted yesterday that the Senate trial won't be the iron-fisted kangaroo court in the House that appalled Americans. The trial in the Senate will kick off next week, where acquittal is likely.

CMPD Releases Video In Murder Case

(Charlotte, NC) -- The CMPD wants the public's help in finding the killer of a deputy's son. Nineteen-year-old Nathaniel Isenhour was shot in the parking lot of a Harris Teeter on University Boulevard in late November. The department released surveillance video of what investigators believe to be the suspect's car on its Twitter account yesterday. Isenhour is the son of Cabarrus County Sergeant Sonny Isenhour.

Mother Indicted In Daughter's Death In Gaston County

(Gastonia, NC) -- A mother is accused in the death of her young daughter in Gaston County. The 14-month-old was found dead at a home on A.J. Wesley Avenue in Gastonia last August. Few details have been released about the case, but 22-year-old Emoni Burnett was indicted for involuntary manslaughter last week. She's expected to appear in court next week.

Driver Dies After Plunge Off Bridge

(Catawba County, NC) -- A woman is dead after a crash off a bridge in Catawba County. Troopers say the 62-year-old's car hit one side of the bridge on Greedy Highway yesterday, before it crossed back over and flipped over the guardrail. The woman was found dead 25-feet below in Jacob's Fork River. Excessive speeding is considered to be a factor in the wreck.

Charlotte Barber Giving Away Haircuts At School

(Charlotte, NC) -- A Charlotte barber is taking his talents to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. Elliott Riley told NBC Charlotte he started a non-profit called Groomed for Greatness that provides free grooming services for youth who don't otherwise have access. He's already stopped by several schools, and needs more barbers to expand the program. Riley says even though he's the one providing services, the kids are really having an impact on him.

Three Rescued, One Killed In Durham Trench Collapse

(Durham, NC) -- One man is dead after a trench collapsed at a gas station construction site in Durham. It happened yesterday morning near the Brier Creek shopping area. The collapse, happened around 11 a.m., trapping four workers underground. One got out on his own and first responder rescued two others.

California Man Arrested At RDU After Concealed Cash Found In Backpack

(Morrisville, NC) -- A San Francisco man is under arrest after TSA agents at Raleigh-Durham Airport found what they say is a large amount of concealed cash in his backpack. Investigators expect the cash will prove to be evidence in a money laundering or drug trafficking operation. Guy Lamar Wilson has a history of controlled substance felony charges in California. He was arrested for outstanding warrants in Guilford County.

Cold Returns To Triangle Friday

(Undated) -- The Triangle's flirt with an early spring is over and wintry weather will be back on Friday. The National Weather Service says we'll see afternoon highs in the low 60s today, after a high of 70 Wednesday. Tonight's low will be around freezing, with a high only in the mid-40s Friday. Saturday will bring highs in the low 50s and a 70-percent chance of rain.

NC State Slams Miami, 80-63 As Bryce Returns

(Raleigh, NC) -- NC State got 19 points from D.J. Funderburk, 15 from Devon Daniels, and a big lift as guard C.J. Bryce returned to slam Miami 80-63 at PNC Arena last night. Bryce had five points and six assists in his first game since going down with a concussion before Christmas. The Wolfpack trailed, 25-23 before closing out the first half on a 10-0 run. NC State is now 3-3 in the ACC and 12-5 overall.

(New Orleans, LA) -- Former Duke All-American Zion Williamson will make his NBA debut next week. The New Orleans Pelicans announced Wednesday that Williamson will suit up at home against the Spurs on January 22nd. Williamson hasn't played since the preseason as he recovers from knee surgery.

Police: Juveniles Steal Car, Hit Two School Buses In Winston-Salem

(Winston-Salem, NC) -- Three juveniles are under arrest after, police say, they stole a car and hit two school buses. It happened yesterday in Winston-Salem. Police say the juveniles were driving recklessly when they hit one school bus and then collided with another one head-on. The buses were from Northwest Middle School. A bus driver was taken to the hospital, but none of the students were badly hurt. The juveniles took off but were later caught and arrested.

Man Arrested After Standoff With High Point Police

(High Point, NC) -- A man is under arrest after a standoff with High Point police. Officers were called to a home on Asbill Avenue last night after someone heard a gunshot. They'd been waiting outside for two hours when a fire started in the house. Firefighters responded to the scene to put it out, and the man was arrested.

High Point Workers Have Their Tires Slashed

(High Point, NC) -- An investigation is underway at a High Point assisted living center where several of the employees' tires were slashed. It happened Tuesday night at Brookdale Senior Living Center on Hartley Drive. Three vehicles were targeted. Employees tell police they believe they know who's responsible, but police still don't have enough evidence to identify a possible suspect. Anyone with information is asked to call High Point P-D.

Man Hit, Killed By Train In Greensboro

(Greensboro, NC) -- A man is dead after he was struck by a train in Greensboro. The accident happened around 4:30 yesterday afternoon near Benbow Road and East Market Street. Police have not identified the man or said what he was doing on the tracks. No other injuries were reported.
