COVID Vaccine Clinics Begin In Asheville, Buncombe Schools
(Asheville, NC) -- COVID vaccine clinics hosted through Buncombe County and Asheville City Schools are now underway. The first in a series was held over the weekend at Asheville Middle School, where children as young as age five were welcome to get their first shots. The next clinic will be hosted on Saturday at North Buncombe High School. Two more are set in December.
Jingle Jog To Help Substance Abuse Recovery Efforts
(Henderson County, NC) -- Substance abuse recovery is the focus of an upcoming benefit 5K in Henderson County. The Hope Coalition is hosting its first Hope for the Holidays Jingle Jog around downtown Hendersonville on December 18th. Participants are welcome to run, jog or walk. Race participation and donations will go towards things like expanded peer support, participation with law enforcement and providing a drug-free workplace.
College Basketball Tourney Wraps In Asheville
(Asheville, NC) -- The head organizer of last weekend's college basketball tournament in Asheville is looking to expand. Minnesota came out on top in a group of four teams who played at Harrah's Cherokee Center, which also included South Carolina, Western Kentucky and Princeton. Asheville tournament chair Dave Odom told WLOS-TV that the event can be grown because people in the city want the tournament to be there.
Interstate Work Begins In Haywood County
(Haywood County, NC) -- Construction on I-40 is expected to cause delays in Haywood County for more than half-a-year. DOT crews shut down one lane in each direction near Exit Seven over the weekend. A bridge is being replaced because it is at the end of its service life. Drivers will be alerted of detours ahead of the closures.

Suspect Arrested For Attempted Rape In Kannapolis
(Kannapolis, NC) -- A suspect is accused of trying to attack two women in Kannapolis. Investigators say he confronted the victims at a Dollar General and Family Dollar store yesterday. WSOC-TV reports employees at the Family Dollar helped hold the suspect until police arrived. He was arrested for first-degree kidnapping and attempted rape.

(Charlotte, NC) -- A man is behind bars for a murder in north Charlotte. The CMPD says a man was shot to death at a gas station on North Tryon Street on Friday night. The suspect was arrested the next day.
Fire Damages Strip Mall
(Charlotte, NC) -- Some businesses are recovering from damages suffered in a northwest Charlotte fire. Several dozen firefighters responded to help out a blaze at a strip mall off Bradford Drive early Saturday morning. It took just over an hour to control the fire. It's unclear exactly how much damage was caused.
Hearing Scheduled For Proposed Gaston County Mine
(Gaston County, NC) -- The public is welcome to chime in on a proposed Lithium open-pit mine in Gaston County. The North Carolina Division of Energy, Mineral and Land Resources is holding an information session at the courthouse this evening before a public hearing. Speeding Car Full Of Teens Crashes And Flips In Morrisville; Four Injured One Dead
(Morrisville, NC) -- Residents in the town of Morrisville are mourning the death of one teenager and the injuring of four others in a weekend auto crash. It happened early Sunday morning around 1:15 along Morrisville Parkway near Duck Pond Circle. Authorities say the 17-year old driver was traveling at about 80-miles per hour when she lost control of her Honda Civic, crashed into a median and flipped over several times before stopping. Two of the passengers were completely ejected from the vehicle. One of them, identified as 18-year old Johnathan Pooley, was pronounced dead at the scene. At last report, two of the teens were listed in critical condition, the other two were in stable condition. Investigators believe alcohol was involved.
Authorities In Durham Looking For Two Men Who Robbed Several People At Gunpoint During A Weekend Soccer Game
(Durham, NC) -- Durham police are looking for two suspects who robbed several people at gunpoint while they were attending a neighborhood soccer game. Witnesses also say one of the gunmen fired several rounds during the commission of the crime. Fortunately no one was injured. It happened around 7:30 Saturday night at Twin Lakes Park off Chandler Road. Investigators spent several hours at the scene collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses. So far, there have been no arrests in this case.
HHS Offering Cash Incentives To Persuade Families To Get Vaccinated Before The Holidays
(Raleigh, NC) -- The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services has launched a new cash incentives campaign in an effort to get more families vaccinated before the start of the holiday season. From now until Thanksgiving, any adult who brings someone to a vaccination site for their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, will be given a 25-dollar pre-paid Master Card. HHS has designated walk-in family vaccination sites across the state. In the Triangle area, parents can take their kids to sites in Sampson, Vance and Wilson Counties.
Wake County Hosting An Online Job Fair Tuesday
(Wake County, NC) -- The Wake County Public School District is scheduled to host a big job fair tomorrow. The virtual event is an effort to recruit more teachers and support personnel, including bus drivers, child nutrition workers, school counselors and other education positions. The online job fair will be held from 5:pm until 7:pm. Several principals and human resources managers will also be participating in the event and conducting interviews.
Nikole Hannah-Jones To Be Interviewed On Good Morning America Today
(Chapel Hill, NC) -- Former UNC Chapel Hill Journalism professor Nikole Hannah-Jones will be a guest on ABC's Good Morning America today. The Pulitzer Prize winning writer will be interviewed about her new book 'The 1619 Project; A New Origin Story'. Hannah-Jones drew national attention earlier this year, when she was initially denied tenure to teach at the University. However, after a public uproar, the UNC Board of Governors reversed its decision and offered her a full tenured position. The controversy ended with Hannah-Jones declining the offer and instead taking a similar job at HBCU Howard University in Washington, D.C.
Mask Mandate for Guilford County Could Be Lifted Soon
(Greensboro, NC) -- The current indoor mask mandate could come to an end Monday in Guilford County because of low COVID infection rates. County officials say one of the goals that was set for lifting the rule has been met as of last week: having a vaccination rate of 70 percent or having a positivity rate at or below five percent for three straight weeks. As of Friday, health department officials say Guilford County has had a 14-day positivity rate of four percent and a daily positivity rate of four and a half percent. The mask mandate originally was set to end in January.
Three People Shot Near Downtown Pub
(Greensboro, NC) -- Three people are recovering after a shooting Sunday morning on West McGee Street in Greensboro. Police say it happened a little after 2 a.m. near Natty Greene's Pub where they found two people who had been shot. They were both taken to the hospital. Then a third victim also arrived at the hospital with a gunshot wound in what police say was the same incident. They don't have any information on a suspect.
Woman Shot While Driving Near University Parkway
(Winston-Salem, NC) -- A 38-year-old woman is recovering from what responders say are serious injuries to her leg after she was shot while driving in Winston-Salem Sunday. She told police she was driving south on US 52 Near University Parkway when someone in an SUV drove up next to her and shot at her car. She called police when she realized she'd been hit in the leg. Authorities are asking for any tips from the public in this case at Crime Stoppers of Winston-Salem or by calling the police department.
Eden Church Burns Down -- Local, State, Federal Agents Investigating
(Eden, NC) -- Local, state and federal officials are investigating how a church in Eden caught fire early Sunday morning. They say the United House of Prayer for All People on 400 Bridge Street was fully involved when firefighters arrived on the scene about 5:30 a.m. The structure sustained extensive damage. No injuries were reported. Local police, the Rockingham County Sheriff's Office and ATF officials are asking for the public's help to provide tips in the case.
