The price for a gallon of regular unleaded stayed steady at four-18 over the weekend, which runs about 14-cents below the national average. Average prices in North Carolina are nearly 80-cents above where they were just one-month ago. Nearly every county in the mountain region is averaging above the state norm.
Suspect In Jail After Major Drug Arrest
(Hendersonville, NC) -- A drug suspect is being held in Henderson County's jail under a massive bond amount. One man was arrested last week after drug task force agents seized over 50 grams of fentanyl, nearly 30 grams of methadone and more. The arrest resulted in trafficking and possession charges. Bond was set at over two-million-dollars.
Season's First Flu Death Reported In Buncombe County
(Buncombe County, NC) -- The first flu-related death of the season is being confirmed in Buncombe County. Health and Human Services reported the death last week, adding a reminder that the flu is still circulating despite continued COVID cases. Statewide deaths have numbered anywhere from 185 to nearly 400 yearly over the last half-decade.

Asheville Woman Forced To Give Up Unique License Plate
(Asheville, NC) -- An Asheville woman is losing her fight to keep an interesting license plate. Karly Sindy was sent a plate last year with the word "fart," which stands for Friends of Asheville Recreational Trails. WLOS-TV reports Sindy was just told she had to remove the plate after the DMV advised it was sent out in error due to it being a banned word. The trails group gathered yesterday as a way to celebrate, despite her failed appeal to keep the plate.
Four Arrested After Bessemer City Shooting
(Gaston County, NC) -- Four suspects are being charged in a Bessemer City double shooting. Investigators say one juvenile was killed and another was injured in a shooting on Dameron Road Saturday afternoon. Each suspect was arrested for homicide and attempted murder charges.

Former Commission Recommended For Board Spot
(Mecklenburg County, NC) -- A former member of the Mecklenburg County commission is likely to serve on the board again. Wilhelmenia Rembert has been recommended to temporarily fill the seat of Ella Scarborough after a special meeting over the weekend. Scarborough is currently on medical leave. The vote for the seat will be held tomorrow night.

One Dead In Stanley Shooting
(Stanley, NC) -- Police are looking for a person of interest in a deadly shooting in Stanley. WSOC-TV reports one man was shot to death close to Main Street late Saturday night. The police department is seeking out 26-year-old T.J. Duff for questioning.

Local Ukrainians Say Its Time For Allied Military Resistance Against Russia
(Raleigh, NC) -- With all diplomatic efforts to end Russian attacks on Ukraine seeming to have failed so-far, local Ukrainians are planning a march and rally this weekend to demand more military support from the U.S. Maryna Kapustina, head of the Ukrainian Association of North Carolina, says continued Russian bombing of civilian targets, should be proof that Valdimir Putin has no intention of stopping his aggression until he completely takes over the nation. The rally is planned for Sunday, March 20th from 2:pm-5:pm in front of the State Capitol.
Shooting In Walmart Parking Lot Leaves One Injured
(Raleigh, NC) -- Police in Raleigh are continuing to search for a suspect in connection with a shooting at a Walmart parking lot Saturday. One person was injured and taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. It happened just before 5:30 pm at the Superstore location on Glenwood Avenue in Brier Creek. The Walmart was placed on temporary lockdown and later closed for the rest of the day. Durham City Council member Mark Anthony Middleton was one of those inside the facility, who was not allowed to leave until police completed thorough a sweep. Investigators believe the suspect ran away on foot.
Man Dies In Early Morning House Fire In Durham County
(Durham County, NC) -- An investigation is underway into the cause of a house fire that killed a man in Durham County. It happened early Sunday morning along the 3700-block of East Greer Street. Firefighters arrived around 6:00 am to find flames billowing from the wood frame structure. After bringing it under control, they went inside to find a lone occupant unresponsive. The unidentified man was pronounced dead at the scene. Inspectors say it appears the fire was started in the attic from a deteriorating chimney. There were also no smoke detectors in the house.
Driver Crashes Into The Back Of Another Vehicle, Causing Both To Overturn Then Runs Away
(Cumberland County, NC) -- Authorities in Cumberland County are looking for the driver of a car who ran away on foot, after slamming into the rear of another vehicle and causing both to crash and overturn. The condition of the occupants of the rear-ended vehicle was not released. It happened around 4:am on I-95 near NC-24 in Cumberland County. The North Carolina Highway Patrol reports both vehicles were severely damaged. No further details were given about the suspect.
Duke Number 2 Seed In The West; North Carolina Number 8 In The East
(Durham, NC) -- After falling to Virginia Tech 82-67 in the ACC tournament championship final, the Duke Blue Devils were lifted back to the top of the leader board Sunday with a Number 2 seed in the West Region of the NCAA Tournament. Gonzaga is the Number 1 seed in the West. Duke is scheduled to take on Cal State Fullerton in Greenville, South Carolina Friday. Meanwhile, North Carolina was placed in the East Region as the Number 8 seed and will go up against Number 9 Marquette on Thursday. Wake Forest and NC State did not get invited to the NCAA Tournament this year.

(Raleigh, NC) -- After winning their third consecutive ACC Tournament Championship, the North Carolina State women have earned a Number 1 seed in the Bridgeport Region of the NCAA Tournament. Late Sunday, the tournament selection committee also named South Carolina as the overall Number 1 seed. They will play in the Greensboro Region. UNC Chapel Hill is the Number 5 seed in the Greensboro Region and is set to take on Stephen F. Austin Saturday in Tucson.
Police Identify Man Killed Near Library Parking Lot
(Winston-Salem, NC) - Winston-Salem officials say they have identified the man whose body was found stabbed to death near a library parking lot. A police department news release says James Roseborough, who was 32, was involved in a fight before he was stabbed Sunday in the 500 block of North Spring Street. Police are collecting surveillance and security video from cameras at area businesses as part of their ongoing investigation.
Student Charged After Allegedly Bringing A Gun To High School
(Greensboro, NC) -- A 17-year-old boy has been charged after allegedly bringing a loaded gun to Page High School. The student's name is not being released because he's a juvenile. The gun was brought onto campus but not into any buildings on Friday. It was discovered after another student told the school resource officer that the boy had it.
Man's Arm Amputated After Incident at Postal Facility
(Greensboro, NC) -- A mechanic who was working at a U.S. Postal facility in Greensboro had to have his arm amputated after working with a faulty machine. OSHA officials in Raleigh say the machine did not have a safety guard. The injury led to an OSHA inspection that reportedly found repeated and serious safety violations and also fined the facility more than 170-thousand dollars.
Wake Forest Misses Chance to Play in NCAA, but Gets NIT First-Round Spot
(Winston-Salem, NC) -- Wake Forest has missed its chance to play in the NCAA Tournament. However, it has received a spot in N-I-T play in the first round. The Demon Deacons will play Towson [[ TAU-son ]] at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at Joel Coliseum in Winston-Salem. The NCAA Tournament pairings were announced Sunday night with Virginia Tech joined by Duke, North Carolina, Notre Dame and Miami.
