Remains Found During Search For Missing Woman
(Macon County, NC) -- A discovery of human remains is being investigated in Macon County. The sheriff revealed Saturday that a search began the day before after a woman was reported missing. The office coordinated with Rabun County investigators out of Georgia to eventually find remains that are believed to be that of the missing woman. A suspect was arrested on a charge of kidnapping in Rabun County.
Asheville Requests Funds For Tourism
(Asheville, NC) -- Asheville is looking for financial help from the Buncombe County Tourism Authority. City leaders have decided to request close to eight-million-dollars for four projects. Man Dies In Avery County Drowning
(Avery County, NC) -- A drowning is being reported in the North Carolina High Country. Investigators told the Watauga Democrat that a 53-year-old man drowned on Friday at Elk River Falls in Avery County. He reportedly went missing while swimming with a group. Foul play isn't suspected.
Montreat Leaders Looking To Solve Bear-Hunting Dog Problem
(Montreat, NC) -- Montreat town leaders are discussing ways to monitor unsafe bear hunting practices. The Black Mountain News says bear-hunting dogs have been unleashed to chase bears out of the town four-times since the beginning of year, and there's concern about the safety of others. A group met last week to come up with several proposals, including fines and stricter ordinances. A rule to ban bear hunting in general would have to go through the General Assembly.
City Anniversary Celebrated In Hendersonville

CATS CEO Addresses Safety
(Charlotte, NC) -- The CEO of the Charlotte Area Transit System is addressing recent safety concerns. He revealed in a Twitter video Friday night that security patrols have been increased, while a real-time camera system is being tested for buses and trains. Suspect Arrested For Rowan County Murder
(Rowan County, NC) -- The suspect in a Rowan County homicide is behind bars. Investigators say they believe the victim was shot twice inside his Wildwood Road home Friday night because of an argument. Deputies then went to the suspect's home and arrested him for murder. He'll appear in court this morning.
Man Dies After Boating Accident In Hickory
(Hickory, NC) -- One man is dead after an accident on Lake Hickory. Wildlife officials say he was thrown from the boat early Saturday morning around a half-mile from the Highway 321 bridge. The watercraft reportedly slammed into a lake bank. Another man in the boat was also thrown out, but he survived.
Carowinds Hiring Lifeguards For Water Park

Fight Inside Vape Store In Clayton Results In Store Clerk Being Shot
(Clayton, NC) -- Police in Cary are asking the public for help in identifying a man whose image is posted on the Department's website. The suspect is wanted for the shooting of a store clerk Sunday afternoon. Investigators say the shooting happened around 4:30 pm at the Vape and Tobacco World on Highway 70, after the suspect and store employee got into an altercation. Witnesses say the adult male was last seen headed east on Highway 70-driving a dark colored Toyota Camry. The victim was hospitalized with serious injuries. Hit And Run Driver On I-95 Leaves Pedestrian Wounded In Cumberland County
(Cumberland County, NC) -- Authorities in Cumberland County are looking for the driver of a vehicle who struck and wounded a pedestrian on I-95 near the town of Godwin. It happened around 1:pm Sunday. The NC Highway Patrol says the victim was attempting to get back into his car in the opposite lane of traffic when he was struck by a driver who kept going. The pedestrian was rushed to a hospital in Fayetteville and treated for unspecified injuries. No word on his condition.

(Fayetteville, NC) -- An investigation continues into a Sunday night shooting near the campus of Fayetteville State University. It happened on Murchison Road near Filter Plant Drive. Investigators have not released details that led up to the shooting, only that the victim was taken to Cape Fear Valley Hospital for treatment. The northbound lanes of Washington Drive and Filter Plant Drive were closed for several hours while authorities examined forensic evidence. Roman Candle Used In Attempt To Set Police Car On Fire
(Johnston County, NC) -- Investigators in Johnston County are looking for suspects who tried to set a police vehicle on fire over the weekend. Police in the town of Micro say Saturday night, someone placed a Roman candle on the passenger side of the marked vehicle underneath the wheel well in the alleged arson attempt. There were no injuries. Police identified a male driver and female passenger leaving the scene in a small blue car with a 30-day temporary tag. Child Safe After Kidnapping, Car Theft Incident
(Winston-Salem, NC) -- Police say a three-year-old child is unharmed after being kidnapped in a stolen car. It happened Saturday evening at the Sheetz on Glenn Center Drive in Winston-Salem. Around 45 minutes later, Thomasville police received a call about a child being abandoned in a car seat, who was identified as the missing child. The Randolph County Sheriff's Office later found the stolen Toyota Highlander and arrested Raymond Henry Oneal. He was taken into custody after allegedly resisting arrest and assaulting the deputy; he faces multiple charges for both kidnapping and theft.

Auto-Pedestrian Crash Increase in Triad
(Winston-Salem, NC) -- The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has released a report that shows deadly pedestrian crashes have increased by 12 percent in North Carolina. In the Triad, NC-DOT numbers show that between 2018 and 2020 there were four fatal pedestrian accidents in Forsyth County and twenty fatal accidents in Guilford County. Officials say the accidents they've worked are split as far as who was at fault -- sometimes it was pedestrians who weren't obeying traffic laws, and other times distracted drivers were responsible.
Kinston Native, NBA Player Gets $100K Award for Social Justice Work
(High-Point, NC) -- A man from Kinston who's now playing for the Dallas Mavericks has been honored with the second-ever Kareem Adbul-Jabbar Social Justice Champion award. The NBA says shooting guard Reggie Bullock has been given the honor. ESPN reports that Bullock has long been an avid advocate for the L-G-B-T-Q-plus community in memory of his sister, a transgender woman who was killed eight years ago. Bullock will receive 100-thousand dollars from the NBA, which he has designated for an organization called Kinston Teens.
