(Henderson County, NC) -- Two family members of a former Henderson County diner owner are facing charges in connection with her death. Paula Clark died a week after she was assaulted during an apparent attempted robbery May 6th. The sheriff's office revealed yesterday her 22-year-old grandson is behind bars for murder after he allegedly beat Clark with the butt of an air rifle. The murder suspect's uncle, who is also Clark's son, is accused of conspiracy to commit robbery.

Human remains were found over the weekend in Macon County shortly after an investigation began over the disappearance. The sheriff's office says two suspects were arrested yesterday for desecrating a human body. Another suspect was arrested for kidnapping a few days before.
Asheville Protester Arrested For Terrorizing Drivers
(Asheville, NC) -- An Asheville protester is facing charges for allegedly terrorizing drivers. Asheville police say a group of demonstrators blocked traffic in downtown last week. (Gastonia, NC) -- A Charlotte man is facing charges in a double shooting. Two people were injured when gunfire erupted at a business on West Franklin Boulevard in Gastonia early Sunday morning. Officers arrested the suspect later in the day for two counts of attempted murder. He had apparently been fired from the business at the center of the scene.

Bus Slides Off I-77
(Charlotte, NC) -- A CATS bus accident is being investigated. NBC Charlotte says the bus slid into a ditch after plowing through a guard rail off I-77 last night. The driver was the only person on board and was not injured. The cause hasn't been released yet, but weather may have been a factor.
Suspect Charged In Union County Overdose Death
(Monroe, NC) -- A suspect is behind bars for a drug overdose death in Union County. The sheriff's office says a man died in March after taking a deadly dose of fentanyl. Investigators found firearms and 800 pills laced with fentanyl at the home of the suspect. He's now in jail for second-degree murder.
Thousands Of Hotspots Unused By CMS Students
(Charlotte, NC) -- Most of the hotspots paid for through pandemic funding are not being used by CMS students. NBC Charlotte reports ten-thousand hotspots were reported to have zero usage last month. Downed Trees, Powerlines And Widespread Flooding Caused By Monday's Storms
(Raleigh, NC) -- Clean up efforts will continue today in communities across central North Carolina in the aftermath of two storm systems that tore through the region on Monday. The first produced strong winds, a possible tornado and knocked down numerous trees and powerlines. The second brought heavy rain and prompted flash flood warnings to be issued in at least five Triangle area counties late last night. EMA officials also reported several large trees crashing onto houses in the Northgate and Grove Park sections of Durham. A fire at a townhouse complex in Chapel Hill was believed to have been caused by lightning. So far, there have been no reports of injuries.
Man Shot And Killed While Driving His SUV On NC-55 In Durham
(Durham, NC) -- A man was killed Monday after being involved in a rolling shootout with the occupants of another vehicle along NC-55 in Durham. Investigators say a group of people inside an SUV fired several shots at the driver of a black Jeep. The wounded victim then crashed into several cars in the parking lot of Jimmy's Famous Hot Dog's. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Police are still looking for the suspects who fired the shots from the SUV.
Adult Male Hospitalized After Being Shot Multiple Times At McDougald Terrace In Durham
(Durham, NC) -- About two hours later, Durham police responded to a second call of a shooting on Wabash Street and Ridgeway Avenue. When they arrived, they found an adult male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed to a nearby hospital and treated for serious injuries. No word on his condition. So-far there have been no suspects identified nor arrests made in this case.
Support Gaining Among North Carolina Republicans For Medicaid Expansion
(Raleigh, NC) -- After years of opposition, Republicans in the North Carolina General Assembly are reportedly working on a new bill that would expand Medicaid in the state. North Carolina is one of about a dozen states that have resisted Medicaid expansion since the passage of the Affordable Care Act.
