Bomb Threat Clears Brevard College Campus
(Brevard, NC) -- A bomb threat at Brevard College is under investigation. Officers told WLOS-TV a threat was called in to 911 Monday morning. The campus was cleared while officers swept the area, but nothing suspicious was found. Brevard police are now trying to find out who called the threat in.
Plane Makes Emergency Landing In Swain County
(Swain County, NC) -- No accidents are being reported from an emergency plane landing in western North Carolina. The Swain County sheriff's office says a single-engine plane was forced to land on U.S. 74 late Sunday morning. The engine reportedly stalled, which caused the pilot to make the landing. The aircraft didn't suffer any damage.
Madison County Starts Temporary Ban On Certain Developments
(Madison County, NC) -- Permits for some developments in Madison County are being temporarily halted. The Citizen-Times reports the board of commissioners approved a six-month ban in late June after some residents complained about noise from Marshall and Hot Springs wedding venues. Those included in the ban include assembly halls, hotels, recreational facilities and community centers. The six-month period will give the board time to study what changes need to be made to the county land use ordinance.
Renovations Planned For Madison Stadium
(Madison County, NC) -- Big changes are coming to a football stadium in Madison County. The school board discussed major renovation plans for Madison County High School's stadium at its late June meeting. The venue was condemned this spring, but is now expected to re-open next year. Plans include the replacement of all grandstands, a new track and more parking.
DOT To Improve Highway In Buncombe, Henderson Counties
(Henderson County, NC) -- Plans are in place to improve US Highway 74A in Buncombe and Henderson counties. A DOT engineer told WLOS-TV a portion of the roadway is scheduled to be repaved from the Blue Ridge Parkway to Cane Creek as early as this month. It comes after some drivers have complained about the amount of potholes along the highway. Pipe replacements are also scheduled in Fairview.
More Than Dozen Sworn-In As Citizens In Charlotte
(Charlotte, NC) -- More than a dozen people in Charlotte are new U.S. citizens. A group took the citizenship oath at the Charlotte Museum of History yesterday. WSOC-TV says it included 15 people from 13 countries. More than six-thousand people are being welcomed as citizens during naturalization ceremonies between July 1st and 8th.
CLT Busy Again Today
(Charlotte, NC) -- The end of the travel holiday period is expected to be a busy one at the Charlotte airport again today. Officials at Charlotte Douglas International Airport were expecting crowds approaching pre-pandemic holiday numbers from the end of last week through today. Passengers are advised to get to the airport early.
Copper Wire Stolen From Lincoln County Lowe's
(Lincoln County, NC) -- Investigators are trying to track down thieves who stole copper wire from a Lincoln County Lowe's store. The sheriff's office says four suspects lifted seven-thousand-dollars'-worth of wire from a location in Denver last week. The group allegedly walked straight through the self-checkout area and out the door. Investigators are looking through surveillance footage to make identifications.
Hickory Man Dies In Oak Island Drowning
(Hickory, NC) -- A Hickory man is the victim of a drowning off the North Carolina coast. Bystanders helped pull the 52-year-old from the water off Oak Island Sunday afternoon, but life-saving efforts were unsuccessful. Conditions were worsened along the coast from the impacts of Tropical Storm Colin. Another half-dozen rescue calls went out on the island Sunday as well.
Fire Set Intentionally In Charlotte
(Charlotte, NC) -- Charlotte fire officials say a blaze was set on purpose at an education trailer. Flames damaged part of a structure at a Charlotte Water operations center on Tyvola Road Sunday. No one was injured. Investigators say the trailer had been vacant at the time of the fire.

(Charlotte, NC) -- Summer league basketball is about to begin for the Hornets. Play kicks off in Las Vegas against the Pacers on Friday. The NBA's summer league generally consists of line-ups featuring rookie and G-league affiliate players.
RDU Flight Delays And Cancellations Not As Bad On 4th Of July
(Wake County, NC) -- Across the country and at RDU, airports reported a slight reduction in flight delays and cancellations on Monday. According to 'Flight Aware', nationally there were 33-hundred flight delays and more than 250-cancelled. At RDU there were over 50-delays and only two cancellations on the 4th of July.
Abortion Rights Activists Marched And Rallied During Traditional 4th Of July Celebration Outside The State Capitol
(Raleigh, NC) -- Hundreds of abortion rights protesters took to the streets of downtown Raleigh on the 4th of July to march and rally against the recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling overturning Roe v. Wade. The march was held at the same time that others gathered on the front lawn outside the Capitol for the traditional reading of the Declaration of Independence, music and picnics. The protesters said although abortion remains legal in North Carolina, they are worried that its future is uncertain.
Leaders In Garner To Hold Second Debate On Proposed LGBTQ Ordinance Tonight
(Garner, NC) -- At the Garner Town Council meeting tonight, members are expected to resume debate over a proposed non-discrimination ordinance that would provide enhanced protections for LGBTQ people in public and in the work place. To date, at least five Triangle area counties have approved measures adopting Wake County's version of an NDO for LGBTQ people. A total of 19-cities and towns have passed similar ordinances statewide.
Nearly 40-Bills Awaiting Governor Cooper's Signature When He Returns To Work Today
(Raleigh, NC) -- When Governor Roy Cooper returns to work today, he will have nearly 40-bills to decide whether or not he will sign. They include a 27-point-9 billion dollar budget that includes pay raises for teachers and state employees, another bill that would permanently legalize Hemp and legislation that would require county sheriff's department to cooperate with ICE.
Talk Of Recession Not Expected To Have Devastating Impact On North Carolina
(Raleigh, NC) -- In the midst of looming fears about a future recession, economists in North Carolina say should one occur, the Tar Heel state should fair better than most. UNC State professor Mike Walden points to job websites such as Dice, Adzuna and Glassdoor, estimating at least 50-thousand jobs are currently available in the Triangle alone. Last week they reported of that number, more than eight-thousand were in the tech industry, 11-hundred in manufacturing and 450-openings in life sciences.
Bulls Fall To Redbirds 6-4 In First Of Two Meetings At DBAP
(Durham, NC) -- Despite a Yeoman's effort, the Durham Bulls were unable to pull off a 4th of July holiday win for the home crowd last night against the Memphis Redbirds. With Redbird errors at first and second base in the fifth, the Bulls took a 3-0 lead, only to fall behind 6-3 late in the game . In the bottom of the ninth, Luke Raley was able to get a bases loaded walk to narrow the score to 6-4, but no closer. The Bulls take on the Redbirds again tomorrow night at the DBAP.
