Election day is more than 3 months away and the landscape for the Buncombe County race for Sheriff is already changing.
Republican candidate Jeff Worley is withdrawing his name from the race citing new information regarding his health.
Worley's campaign reached out exclusively to News Radio 570 WWNC with a statement regarding his intention to end his campaign.
"Due to information that I have recently received regarding my personal health, I unfortunately must withdraw my candidacy for the office of Sheriff of Buncombe County. After much thought and prayer over the weekend, I decided that this course of action is the best option for me at this time. It has been one of the most difficult choices I’ve ever had to make in my career in law enforcement. When I started this journey months ago, I pledged to do the best job possible as Sheriff. These recent disclosures have placed me in a position where I can no longer guarantee that I would be able to do that.
I’d like to thank all my supporters for your hard work, dedication, and commitment to our campaign. Your efforts are appreciated more than you know."
Worley easily won his primary against Ben Jaramillo back in May.
