HCA Healthcare revealed yesterday that some patient's personal information may have been accessed when it was released by an unauthorized party in an online forum. No malicious activity has been reported so far. This comes just after the Charles George VA Medical Center reported a data breach of its own over the weekend.

All Shows Could Be Moved Due To Auditorium Air Problem

(Asheville, NC) -- All shows scheduled to be held at an Asheville auditorium may be moved due to air problems. One of the HVAC units at Thomas Wolfe Auditorium recently went down, which already forced the Asheville Symphony to shift performances to First Baptist Church. Estimates to repair the system are roughly one-and-a-half-million-dollars, and could take more than half-a-year to complete.

Waynesville Farmers Sue Labor Department

(Waynesville, NC) -- A Waynesville farmer's group is suing the U.S. Labor Department. WLOS-TV reports paperwork was just filed by the city's USA Farm Labor office over a change to wages in the department's migrant program. One official told WLOS-TV this week that they're being forced to pay up to ten-dollars-more-per-hour for work based on occupational titles, not job duties.

Buncombe County Offers Affordable Housing Map

The Community Development Division announced the release of its online Affordable Housing Map, which will also be used as a way for service providers to help clients with specific needs. Woodfin Mayor Stepping Down

(Woodfin, NC) -- The longtime mayor of a town in western North Carolina is stepping down. Jerry VeHaun recently told leaders in Woodfin that he'll be leaving his position at the end of this year. He has spent the last 20-years as Woodfin's mayor and also worked as Buncombe County's Emergency Services director for 47-years. Candidates for the position have until July 21st to file.

Autopsy Results Due Today In Swain County Death

(Swain County, NC) -- The sheriff's office is supposed to find out more about a Swain County death investigation today. Autopsy results are coming in after a body was found near Morrow Cemetery Road on Saturday. No suspected cause of death was initially released. Investigators say there was no immediate threat to the community.

Charlotte Council Preserves Funds For Affordable Housing Project

(Charlotte, NC) -- Charlotte leaders are providing more funds for another affordable housing project. The city council decided last night to give investors three-and-a-half-million-dollars for the Brookhill Village project. Mecklenburg County commissioners also gave that same amount just over a month ago. Developers will repair existing units and create new homes.

Charlotte School Moves Summer Camp After Fire

(Charlotte, NC) -- Summer camp is resuming for a Charlotte school heavily damaged by fire. Flames destroyed a building at Charlotte Preparatory School two-weeks ago, causing roughly two-and-a-half-million-dollars in damages. Camp will be held at Saint Stephen United Methodist Church across the street instead. Modular classrooms will be used in the upcoming school year as repairs are underway.

Teen Killed In North Charlotte Shooting

(Charlotte, NC) -- A homicide investigation is now underway in north Charlotte. The CMPD says a 19-year-old died yesterday after initially being shot on Curtiswood Drive Saturday afternoon. Investigators have not said if any suspects have been arrested yet.

Uptown Building Evacuated Due To Smoke

(Charlotte, NC) -- Charlotte's fire department is investigating the cause of an emergency response in Uptown last night. The Wells Fargo building on South Tryon Street was evacuated after a light haze of smoke was seen coming from one of the upper floors. Dozens of firefighters responded to help control the incident. A Wells Fargo spokesman told WCNC that the hazy smoke came from an electrical shortage after a water leak on the 47th floor.

Investigators Say 300 Were At Site Of Mass Shooting

(Anson County, NC) -- The SBI is continuing its investigation into a Wadesboro mass shooting. One person was killed and six were injured when shots were fired during a block party on North Greene Street early Sunday morning. Investigators say that roughly 300-people were likely at the party. Police are busy investigating as many of those witnesses as possible.

More Charlotte-Area Natives Selected In MLB Draft

(Charlotte, NC) -- More Charlotte-area natives are gaining interest from baseball teams. The Chicago Cubs selected Davidson College player Michael Carico with the 149th pick. The Charlotte 49ers' Jake Cunningham was chosen 154th by the Baltimore Orioles. It comes after Albemarle's Rhett Lowder and Waxhaw native Cade Keuhler were both chosen on the draft's first night Sunday.

Body Of Boating Accident Victim Discovered In Falls Lake Last Night

(Wake Co., NC) -- The body of a man who went missing after a boating accident on Falls Lake Sunday, has been recovered. The Wake County Sheriff's Office confirmed that the victim was found just before 9 p.m. Monday. As many as 50-people from multiple agencies searched the lake for more than 30 hours, using drones, boats, K-9 search teams and divers. Family members identified the man as 21-year old Raiquan Massenburg. Another man injured in the two-boat collision remains hospitalized in serious condition. Investigators say neither of them were wearing life jackets.

Former HHS Secretary Dr. Mandy Cohen Sworn In As National CDC Director

(Raleigh, NC) -- Former North Carolina Health and Human Services Secretary Dr. Mandy Cohen was officially sworn in as the new national director of the CDC Monday. Cohen succeeds Dr. Rochelle Walensky, who stepped down at the end of June. She headed up North Carolina's largest public health agency from 2017 through 2021. The last two years of her term involved navigating through the toughest period of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Boil Water Advisory To Continue Today In Lee County

(Lee Co., NC) -- Residents and businesses in Lee County have been placed under a boil water advisory. It comes after a 12-inch water main break near North Horner Boulevard and U.S. Highway 1 in Sanford yesterday. The county-wide advisory was issued because the City of Sanford supplies water to all customers in Lee County. The water will be tested today for dangerous levels of bacteria, before the advisory can be lifted.

Amtrak Now Offering 10 Trips Between Raleigh And Charlotte Each Day

(Raleigh, NC) -- Amtrak has announced the addition of two new trips between Raleigh and Charlotte. It will bring to 10, the total number of Piedmont-Carolina trains running between the two major North Carolina cities each day. The new routes will include a 1 p.m. departure from Raleigh and a 5:30 p.m. departure from Charlotte.

Year Round School Starts Today In Wake County

(Wake Co., NC) -- Today marks the first day of classes for over 30-thousand students enrolled in Wake County year-round school. Depending on the tracks assigned, the academic calendar year runs for 12 months, which will be divided into nine-week quarters separated by three-week vacations. Approximately 175 school buses will also be on roads across Wake County today, transporting students to their respective schools.

Second Ever U.S. Adaptive Open Golf Championship Going On Today At Pinehurst

(Pinehurst, NC) -- Happening at Pinehurst No. 6 this week, the second U.S. Adaptive Open Championship golf tournament, which brings together some of the top golfers in the world with disabilities. The competition is made up of 96 amateur and professional men and women players, representing 30 states and 11 countries. The winners will receive a gold medal and custody of the U.S. Adaptive Open Trophy for one year. In addition, their names will be inscribed in the USGA Hall of Champions. The tournament runs through Wednesday.
