A grenade was discovered in a passenger's carry-on luggage at LaGuardia International Airport on Monday (December 9), according to the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). The passenger was passing through security when TSA officers found the grenade, which was later identified as real but inert. The man explained that he received the grenade as a gift from a museum.
Since the grenade was inert, Port Authority Police did not take any action, and the passenger faced no charges. However, the TSA required the grenade to be surrendered and plans to use it for training purposes. Despite the incident, the passenger was allowed to continue on to his flight.
The TSA reminds travelers to leave any explosives, even inert ones, at home to avoid security issues and potential delays.
